Chapter 1~ Guess Who?

"I may run and hide when you're screamin my name, alright," I sang to myself. I was sitting in my TV room, with my daily bowl of popcorn and Diet Coke, watching my favorite TV show ever, TRL. It was at the number one video for the day, you guessed it, "Larger Than Life" and to make things even better, it was the record breaking day for it, it was number one 60 out of it's 65 days on TRL, but it was being retired. Just then my phone rang, scaring me half to death. "Hello?" I answered, popping another piece of popcorn in my mouth. "Guess who!," a goofy high-pitched voice said. "Nick!" I screamed, jumping up. The popcorn bowl fell out of my lap and spilled onto the floor. I ran to the window and peered across the street. "Aww, how did you know it was me?" he asked, sounding disappointed. "Nickolas, I can always tell when it's you. I've listened to that voice sing, whine, complain, bicker and BE SMART for the last sixteen years!" I said laughing. Then I saw him. The driver's side door of his green Durango opened and he stepped out, with his cell phone up to his ear. He turned around and looked into my TV room window. I waved and smiled at him. "You know what? I heard talking on cell phones can give you brain cancer. Maybe I should get off this thing and over into that beautiful thing's house," he said, pointing to me. I smiled. "Oh me?" I said playfully. He smiled and hung up his phone. I clicked mine off and watched him cross the street. I ran to the front door and opened it right as he got there. "Nicky!" I screamed again, running into his arms. "Amanda, I missed you so much!" I said, kissing the top of my head. "I missed you too. Get in here!" I said, pulling away from him and walking back into my house. "So what have you been doing while I was away?" he asked, looking around my foyer. "Oh the usual. Hollarin at guys, shopping, let's not forget school!" I said, walking into the kitchen. "What guys," he said, almost scary like. I was suprised this. "Oh, guys I would never hook up with. Mostly college ones at UT (University of Tampa)," I answered. He smiled, almost pleased. "Good. So how did Nationals go this year?" he asked, opening my refrigerator. "Really, really good. We got seventh place in the nation," I answered. "That's great! Wow, your hair has gotten long," he commented, flipping my hair up and into my face. I smiled and blew it away. "Well, you haven't seen me in three months, Nicky," I reminded him. "No, you're wrong!" he said, reaching for his wallet. He took out a picture from a credit card slot and showed it to me. It was taken right before he left for his tour--it was me and him at the beach. He was giving me a piggy-back ride right on the shoreline. "I look at it every day, mostly before we go on stage," he explained. I almost melted when he said that. I smiled and took the picture from him. I traced his face with my finger and sighed. "What's wrong?" he asked. "Nothing. We had so much fun that day. Remember?" I asked, giving the picture back. "Of course I remember!" he said, putting it back in the credit card slip. "You, me, Brian and Melanie all went to the beach before we left. We tried so hard to hook Mel and Brian up!" he said, laughing. I about fell over I was laughing so hard, remembering the experience. "I know! And when we 'accidentally' locked them in the closet when we got back here! Too bad nothing happened, they were so cute together," I said, wiping the tears away. I looked at Nick, who's hair was falling beautifully into his face. For a moment I was breathless. I don't know why--I'd never been taken aback by Nick before! He was my best friend! I reached up and gently pushed his blonde bangs out of his face. He reached up with his left hand and pressed my hand against his cheek. Then he turned his head so slightly and kissed my hand. I put my hand around his neck and started to move closer to him. I smiled at him and he smiled back. "What am I doing?" my mind screamed at me, but I blocked it out. He moved closer to me and our mouths were only about an inch apart. Then the phone rang.
