Chapter 2~ Perfect Timing!
"Damn," I said under my breath. I pulled away from Nick's face and walked over to my phone. "Hello?" I said, rather testy. "What's wrong, Zappy?" Melanie asked me. Nick and Mel have been calling me Zappy ever since I was seven because I would go around "zapping" them with forks. Actually, I would poke them. It was amusing to me, don't ask me why. "Melanie, guess who's home!" I said, not mad anymore. "Nick, I know. I saw him drive by when he got here a while ago. I'm coming over, okay?" she asked. "Mel, you know you can come over whenever you want. See ya," I said and hung up. "Who was that?" Nick asked, walking into the TV room. "Mel. She's on her way over. Umm, Nick?" I said, looking down at my hands. "Yeah?" he asked, setting down a picture of me in my cheerleading uniform. He loves that picture. He has one in a silver frame next to his bed. "Uhh, what happened in there?" I asked, afraid of the answer. I didn't want to be shot down. "Umm, well, I don't, umm, really know. I--" he was cut off by Melanie slamming my front door and running into the TV room. "NICK!" she screamed, running to him. They hugged and for a minute I was jealous of her. I know she doesn't like him like that, but the though of her being in his arms made me angry. "I shouldn't act like this. Nick is my best friend for goodness sakes! She did have perfect timing, though," I thought to myself. "Earth to Zappy. Mandy what's wrong?" Melanie asked me. I looked up at her and noticed that she still had her arms around Nick's waist. "Nothing," I said curtly, although I didn't mean to sound so rude. I turned around and walked back into the kitchen to get something to drink. Nick followed me, and I silently prayed Mel would stay in the TV room. She did. "Amanda what's wrong?" he asked. I opened up the refrigerator and took out a Mountain Dew. "Amanda!" he said, taking hold of my arm and turning me around. "Nick, we can't do this. It's too weird. We've been best friends for forever!" I said, refusing to look at him. He let go of my arm and said, "You're right. I love you too much to like you like that. You are like my little sister, although you aren't quite as annoying as BJ." We both laughed and decided we shouldn't leave Melanie watching Dave Holmes and Say What? Karaoke by herself.
