Chapter 5~ Our Heroes
"Michelle! Where's you pass?" Katie asked, suddenly realizing that her friend didn't have the blue and silver tag hanging from her neck. Michelle's hand slowly crept up to where her pass was positioned and realized too that it was gone. "Lorie! My pass is gone!" Michelle yelled, struggling to make sure her friend heard her above the screams of the audience. On instinct, Lorie glanced down to her chest and realized that her's was gone as well. "Mine is too! What do we do?" she yelled back. Then she got an idea. She knew Nick would look at her at some point along the concert, so she didn't take her eyes off of him. He glanced down at her during "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" and smiled. She frantically pointed to her chest where her pass was supposed to be, hoping he would realize what she was trying to say. He barely nodded, understanding her. When the song ended the crowd erupted in screams and cheers. "Right now I would like to ask some very special ladies to come up here on stage with us," Nick said, glancing at Lorie and smiling. She knew what he was going to do. The other boys looked at Nick thinking to themselves, "What the hell is he doing? This is not part of the concert." But Nick did what he had to do. "I would like to ask these four beautiful ladies in the front row to come up here," he said, motioning to the guard to allow the girls to get on stage. The girls all linked hands and made their way to the stage enterance, but not without getting a few nasty looks from fans who were obviously jealous. The girls were all offered a stool to sit on, so they took their places and the Boys began to sing "I'll Never Break Your Heart." When they were finished, Nick whispered to Lorie that the girls could go backstage through the stage wings and wait in the dressing room. She smiled and led the girls back to the dresing room. "What was that!" Caitlyn asked as they sat down on couches and chairs in the room. "Michelle and I had our passes stolen so I showed Nick that they were missing and he brought us on stage to get us backstage," Lorie explained. "Wow, girl, that's smart!" Caitlyn said. Lorie smiled and the girls waited impatiently for the concert to finish so that they could see the Boys again. About twenty minutes later, four huge security guards came through the door to the dressing room, followed by the Boys, who were followed by three more guards. "Uhh, thanks guys, but you don't have to stay in here with us," Kevin told the security guards. The guards left, and the guys all went over to a refrigerator and got bottled waters for themselves and the girls. "So, Lorie, how did you mange to lose you pass?" Nick asked sarcastically. "Oh haha. I think they were stolen. Probably by someone who didn't have any," Lorie said. Nick smiled and took her hand. They wandered out of the dressing room. Michelle and Brian hit it off once again, as did Caitlyn and Kevin. "So, Katie, how long are you staying in Louisville?" AJ asked her when they were sitting alone on a couch. "Oh, we are going back tonight. Lorie and I have a game tomorrow night against Purdue," Caitlyn answered. AJ looked confused. "Oh, I guess I didn't mention that Lorie and I play volleyball for Notre Dame! Sorry," she said, laughing. "Volleyball? As in tight black shorts?" AJ asked with a flirty smile. Caitlyn just laughed again and nodded. _____________________________________________________________________________________
"Nick, thanks for saving us tonight. I really wanted to come back and see you again," Lorie said as they were walking back to the dressing room. "Anything for a beautiful girl like you," Nick whispered, lowering his mouth to hers. "Ohmygosh I am about to kiss Nick Carter," Lorie thought to herself. She smiled at the thought and let her lips barely touch his. She didn't want more than that at that moment, because more would just make things complicated. As Nick started to deepen the kiss, Lorie stopped him. "Uhh, Nick, look, I like you a lot, and not just because you are a Backstreet Boy, but please, we can't make things complicated. You are leaving for another city in a few hours, and I have to go back to South Bend (author's note: South Bend, Indiana, is the city where Notre Dame is located.)tonight, and we just can't do this," she whispered, looking down at her hands. Nick raised her head so her could look into her beautiful brown eyes. "Lorie, in three weeks we are all coming back to Lexington to have Thanksgiving with Brian and Kevin's family. Save a few days around there for me, because we have a three week break at that time, okay?" he asked. She smiled and nodded. He hugged her and then took her hand, leading her back in to the dressing room. The girls knew it was time to go, so they all said good-bye to the boys. ____________________________________________________________________________________
"Michelle, I'm going to call you tomorrow. Here is my cell phone number. Call me ANY time, okay? Except for at night between 8:00 and 11:00," Brian said, handing her a piece of paper. She laughed and nodded. Earlier she had given him her phone number in South Bend and her cell phone number. They exchanged a long hug, then the boys had to leave. Katie waved to AJ as he left, Michelle and Caitlyn smiled at Brian and Kevin, and Lorie blew Nick a kiss, which he pretended to catch and put on his mouth. Poor Howie, nobody to see him off, but he had gotten a hug from each of the girls, and besides, he had his girlfriend waiting for him three cities away! ___________________________________________________________________________________
"Wow. Tonight was incredible!" Lorie said as the girls entered their apartment four hours later. They had all fallen asleep in the limo on the way home, so they were not tired at all. Katie had gone back to her apartment, and the girls were still reminiscing about their "adventure" of the night. "You know what, the guys were so great to us tonight. Especially after the little backstage pass incident. They really were our heroes," Michelle said, looking down at the piece of paper Brian had given to her. There was one thing she didn't notice earlier that was written on the paper. "Michelle, I had a blast tonight. I have never felt so comfortable around anyone before! I feel like I've known you forever. Call me. Love, Brian." she silently read to herself. She smiled and placed the piece of paper by the phone and went to bed.
