Chapter 1~ Interview
"Okay, Cassie, you have an interview at three today. This is VERY important, so I want you to save up your voice until then and I want you to go look for a new outfit, because you have to dress to impress," my mom said to me. I was in our hotel bathroom curling my hair. "Who am I meeting with?" I asked, setting the curling iron down and reaching for my makeup brush. "Donna Wright. She is the manager for the Backstreet Boys," my mom said, walking out of the bathroom and into her bedroom. I ran out of the bathroom and into her room. "Mom! Why am I meeting with her?" I screeched, full of excitement. Maybe I should explain a few things. My name is Cassie Sands. I am 20 years old and am the newest recording artist for RCA Records. At a Christmas party last year my uncle heard me singing. He works for RCA and got me my record deal. "Well, they are looking for a new opening act for their upcoming tour," she said, trying to hide a smile. "MOM! Did you set it up or did they ask for me?" I asked, my heart racing. My imagination was running a mile a minute. "Donna called and asked if you would be interested in auditioning, and I said probably," she answered, finally smiling. Just then my dad (and "driver") came into the room and I started screaming, I was so excited. "What is going on?" he asked. "I'm auditioning for the Backstreet Boys! Ohmigosh! I have to get an outfit and get my nails done and..." I rambled. "You better get going! I'll call the front desk and have them bring a limo around," my mom said, picking up the phone. I ran to the closet and got a pair of jean shorts and a red tank top, went into the bathroom and changed. I came back out and my mom already had my purse ready and shoes in her hands. I laced up my white canvas Keds and slung my purse over my shoulder. "Hey, be careful!" my mom said as I ran down the hallway towards the elevators. I took the elevator all the way down to the garage and found my limo waiting for me. __________________________________________________________________________________
"Excuse me, Mrs. Sands?" the receptionist said. "Yes?" my mother answered, looking up from her legal pad. "Mr. and Mrs. Wright are ready to see you now," she said. My mom turned to me. I was a nervous wreck! My hands were clenched together so hard my knuckles were white. "Are you ready?" she asked, taking my right hand and squeezing it reassuringly. "As ready as I'll ever be!" I answered. We were finally here. JIVE Records New York, outside the executive offices of Johnny and Donna Wright. I had picked out a killer outfit from Wet Seal on 5th Avenue (AN~ I don't really know if there's a Wet Seal on 5th Avenue, but play along!). It was black hip hugger pants with red, green, blue and yellow sparkles all over it and a yellow tube top. (I know, I know, it sounds glam, but I was auditioning for the Backstreet Boys!) My hair was up in a high ponytail secured with a yellow scrunchie, and I was wearing my black and yellow Skechers, because I had planned a little choreography, so I had to be comfortable and able to move. My mom took my hand again and led me into the office. Donna and Johnny stood up, shook my hand and my mother's and offered us chairs. We sat down and immediately I began to feel a little better. "Hello, Cassandra, it's wonderful to finally meet you," Donna said with a smile. "Oh, thank you so much. It is an honor to meet you. Oh, and you can call me Cassie," I said, smiling back. "Okay, Cassie, as you know, we are auditioning opening acts for the Backstreet Boys. If you don't mind me asking, why do you think you would be a good opening act for the biggest pop group on the planet?" Johnny asked me. "Well, I have a ton of great energy. I know that, not only could I pump up the crowd for myself, but I could pump up the crowd for the guys. I have positive music and I really think that I can send out positive messages to their fans," I answered. Johnny and Donna looked at each other, nodded and smiled. I took that as a good sign. "Alright. Well, if you could now," Johnny said, getting up and walking over to a huge cabinet, "we would like to see you perform," he continued. He opened the cabinet and revealed a HUGE stereo system. I got up and handed him my CD. It had the instrumental track only on it to my song "I Think I'm In Love." (AN~ I know this is really Jessica Simpson's song, but please play along, for the sake of the story!) "Okay, Cassie, if you could please take your mark. Johnny will take care of the music, and please begin," Donna explained. I noticed a yellow tape in the shape of an X on the floor, so I took my opening position and waited for Johnny to press the Play button on stereo remote. The music started and I counted out the beats in my head. "Yeah, oh. Every time you're near baby, I get kinda crazy in my health for you, and I don't know what to do. And oh baby, I get kinda shaky when they mention you, I just lose my cool. My friends tell me something has come over me and I think I know what it is. I think I'm in love. Boy I think that I'm in love you, I've been doing silly things when it comes to you. Boy I think that I'm in love with you, I've been tellin all my friends what I feel for you. Just the other night baby, I saw you hangin you were with your crew, I was with mine too. You took me by suprise when you turned and looked me in my eyes, boy you really blew my mind. I don't know whats gotten in to me, but I kinda think I know what it is, I think I'm in love. Boy I think that I'm in love with you, I've been doin silly things when it comes to you. Boy I think that I'm in love with you, I've been tellin all my friends what I feel for you. Something strang has come over me, I've been goin out of my mind. Never met a guy like you before, you make me feel special inside. I think I'm in love! Boy I think that I'm in love with you, I've been doin silly things whn it comes to you. Boy I think that I'm in love with you, and I've been tellin all my friends what I feel for you," I sang. I finished out the fade and struck my last step as the music faded away. When I was completely finished, my mom, Johnny and Donna stood up and clapped for me. I tucked a stray piece of hair behind my ears and smiled. I had it in the bag.
