Chapter 23
Nick had called Angela and gave her a basic outline about why Kristen would be upset. Angela said she would get over it since it was not a huge deal. When the plane landed the guys called the girls to tell them that they made it safely in Canada. The next day Kristen got up early and went to the gym to workout before school started. Going to the gym was something she liked to do whenever she had a lot on her mind. It cleared her head of everything. When she got home from school she was overly excited about her assignment for her choir class.
"Angela!" Kristen hollered when she got home. Angela was busy getting ready for work when she came out of the bathroom to see what Kristen was yelling about.
"Wow you mean you're finally in a good mood?"
"Hey I was only in a bad mood for yesterday. But I went to the gym this morning and got everything out of my head and I had a great day in choir."
"Why what happened?"
"Okay, the choir teacher at one of the high schools had a baby a couple of weeks ago. They had a substitute who had majored in music but he wasn't working out. I don't know why he just wasn't."
"Okay can you get to the point because I can't be late for work," Angela said.
"Well anyways, the school decided to get two students from the college to fill in and I'm one of the ones who is going to be teaching! We'll have like a supervisor for about a week and if it all works out okay then we'll be teaching there for about a month!"
"And you're excited about this?"
"Yes! I think it would be so cool. Plus if we do this well we get an automatic "A" for the semester."
"Okay you keep saying we. Who is the the other person?"
"This guy, Nate."
"Nate? He's not the really cute guy I see you talking to in the halls is it?"
"As a matter of fact yes he is."
"Why don't you call Nick up. I'm sure he'll be thrilled to know you will be working side by side with a guy just as gorgeous as he is."
"Yeah like I'm going to tell him that he's gorgeous. Besides. He should be happy that I'll be doing something that I will enjoy a lot. I mean, teaching music to kids is a lot more fun then waitressing." There was a knock at the door and Kristen went to open it to find a guy standing there with a bouquet of violet roses. "May I help you?"
"Yeah I have some roses here for a young lady with the name of Kristen," the guy said.
"Um yeah that would be." The guy had her sign her name on the clip board and Kristen took the roses inside and placed them on the kitchen table. Angela walked in and saw the roses and asked who they were from
"The card says they're from Nick. Why would he send me roses?"
"Earth to Kristen! He probably feels bad about the way he's been treating you. Those roses are purple. Them things are damn expensive. That boy must really love you." Kristen smiled and she realized that maybe Nick wasn't like Jesse was at all. She knew she couldn't base her current relationship on past ones. She picked up the phone and dialed Nick's cell phone number to find it busy. She dialed AJ's and found it too was busy. 'Is all these guys do is talk on the phone when they are on tour?' Kristen thought to herself. She dialed Brian's number which thankfully she thought wasn't busy."
"Hello?"
"Hey Brian, it's Kristen."
"Hey, I suppose you want to talk to Nick, am I right?" Brian asked.
"Yeah how did you know?"
"Cause it seems as if you two only talk to each other on my phone."
"I'm sorry Brian but his line and AJ's was busy."
"Hey don't worry about, hold on I'll get Nick." Brian gave the phone to Howie who talked to Kristen for a little bit. She told him about her teaching choir for a month and he was really happy for her and hoped that she had fun doing it. Brian had to yell at Nick to get off of his phone. When he finally said it was Kristen on his phone Nick immediately hung up. He ran over to Howie and grabbed the phone from him.
"Kristen, how are you doing?" Nick asked.
"Thank you for the roses Nick," Kristen said.
"So you liked them?"
"Of course I did. I want to apologize for sort of blowing you off yesterday. I didn't mean it."
"You don't need to apologize. Kristen I just want you to know that you don't have to feel guilty or anything like that if you don't feel the same way that I do about you. I won't ever rush you into anything."
"Nick you have to understand. You're the first guy I've dated since my last breakup. That guy was the first guy that I ever loved."
"I know the story Kristen and I completely understand. I don't have anything against you for it. Listen, I know that we just left yesterday and all but why don't I send you a plane ticket now and you can come spend a few days with me."
"Nick I don't think I can."
"Why? You won't miss much school or work." Kristen explained to Nick about how she would be teaching choir at the high school and she wouldn't be able to miss any days while the supervisor was there for a week.
"Well how about you leave Friday after school and you can get back on a plane Sunday afternoon. That way you wouldn't have to miss any school. What do you say?"
"I don't know Nick."
"Please," Nick begged. "If I have to I will get down on my knee right now and beg you."
"Nick....." Kristen began when she was cut off by him. He had gotten down on his knees and started begging her to death over the phone. Kristen couldn't help but laugh.
"What the hell is he doing?" AJ asked the other guys when he saw Nick.
"I think all the fame has finally affected his brain," Brian said.
"Okay Carter if you stop begging then I'll come."
"You will!" Nick said jumping up. He told Kristen all the details about how she could get her ticket and he would meet her at the gate on Friday. "Listen Kristen I have to go the guys are giving me really weird looks so I'll see you on Friday, later." Nick said hanging up the phone. Nick ran over to Brian and picked him up hugging him. He did the same with Howie and Kevin.
"Don't even think about it," AJ said when Nick came up to him.
"Nick I'm only going to ask this once. Are you on drugs because if you are you are not being a very good role model to the fans so I advice you to quit," Kevin said.
"She's coming Kevin!" Nick screamed.
"You mean to tell me you have been away from Kristen for one day and you already arranged for her to come and see you this soon?" Howie asked. Nick nodded his head with a huge smile on his face. "Man have you got it bad."
"So I guess this means that things are okay with Kristen. Right?" AJ asked.
"Nothing was ever wrong really. She just explained some stuff to me about her ex boyfriend and stuff like that."
"So when does she get here?"
"Friday night, I told her that I would meet her at the airport."
"You are aware that we have a concert Friday night and you won't be able to meet her at the airport."
"Ah man I forgot. I'll arrange someone to pick her up then. And AJ she loved the roses, so thanks man."
"No prob." Nick went running off with the other guys. AJ stood there thinking about how lucky Nick was and he didn't even know it. For the first time since he's been in the group he had never been really jealous of the other guys until now.
