Chapter 38
That night AJ couldn't sleep at all. He kept tossing and turning thinking about Kristen and Nick with Toni. At about three in the morning AJ picked up his phone and dialed Nick's number. On the fourth ring a very tired Nick answered the phone. "This better be important or someone is dead," he said tiredly.
"Nick! I figured it out!" AJ hollered into the phone causing Nick to pull the phone away from his ear.
"Figured what out?"
"The perfect lyrics to write a song for Kristen!"
"You woke my ass up to tell me that?"
"Yes! Do you want to know how it will go?"
"Can't it wait until morning?"
"It's 3:00 am. It is morning. So you wanna know?"
"You aren't going to let me go until you do so go for it."
"Tough! You don't get to hear it until after Kristen does!" AJ said laughing
"What the hell are you on? If you're doing drugs I advice you to get off of them."
"I am in love with Kristen, Nick! Don't you get it!"
"Yeah, I get it. Can I call you like in seven or eight hours or something?" Nick asked yawning.
"Fine. I gotta find out what happened with you and Toni anyways." Nick hung up the phone before AJ could say another word. Nick fell back asleep thinking about what had happened with him and Toni that night. Nick woke up at about eight in the morning to someone pounding on his front door. He tumbled out of bed and pulled a shirt on and went to the door to find AJ standing on the other side.
"I thought I said I would call you?" Nick asked.
"Yeah, well, I wanna talk about you and Toni. Also if I can't sleep I don't see why I should allow you to," AJ said walking in and sitting down on the couch. "So what happened after the two of you kissed?"
"All I can say was kissing Toni was a big mistake," Nick said falling down onto the couch.
"Why? Didn't she kiss you back?"
"Yeah, but then she separated from me and got all upset. She said that she couldn't do this to Kristen. She also said that she didn't know if she could trust me after what happened with Kristen. So I still need help with my favor from you."
"Forget it. You don't need to talk to Kristen for me anymore cause I know what I'm writing the song about."
"You still owe me for coming up with the idea. Man, I really messed things up bad when I slept with Cassie. What happened with Kristen last night anyways?"
"In that box she opened was a framed picture of you two with your arms wrapped around each other and your head was leaning on top of hers."
"You don't mean to tell me that she still likes me?" Nick asked.
"You broke her heart man. It's not easy to get over."
"Shit. I thought the two of us would be friends!"
"You don't need to be yelling. It's not her fault."
"Should I go talk to her?"
"No. Go get ready and we'll just go over to the girl's apartment and take them out for lunch or something this after noon."
Toni went into Kristen's room and sat down on her bed and looked at her for a couple of seconds before saying anything. "I have something to confess," she said.
"You're not in any kind of trouble are you?" Kristen asked.
"No. Nothing like that. But I kissed Nick last night and I feel really guilty about it. I told him nothing could happen between us."
"I don't understand. I thought you like him?"
"I do but he hurt my best friend and I know it still kills you inside. Plus, what if he did the same thing to me?"
"Me and Nick are over, Toni. I'm not going to lie to you but if you two went out yeah I would be hurt but I would eventually get over it. Nick can't stay single because I want him to. I don't think he'll ever make the same mistake like he did with me again. He needs to move on."
"Then why don't you?" Toni asked seriously. Kristen didn't answer her just got up and went into the bathroom to take a shower. A couple of hours later Toni answered the door to see Nick and AJ standing there.
"We wanted to take you two girls out to lunch today," AJ said entering the apartment.
"Sounds good to me. I'll go get Kristen," Toni said leaving towards Kristen's room. "Grab your purse we're going out to lunch with Nick and AJ," she said going into her room.
"AJ's going?"
"Um, yeah. What's wrong with that?"
"I don't want to go then."
"Okay, something is up now what is it?"
"Nothing. I just can't spend time with AJ anymore."
"And why not?"
"I just can't okay. Is there a problem with that?" Kristen asked getting up off the bed to leave the room.
"You're not going any where until you tell me why you can't spend time with AJ. He's supposed to be your friend."
"Yeah I would like to keep it that way too."
"Wait. You aren't trying to tell me that you like AJ are you?"
"No, it's just the more time I spend with him the more and more I begin to like him......more than a friend."
"And what is so wrong with that?"
"I refuse to allow myself to fall in love. That's what's wrong with it."
"Well, you're still going now let's go."
"Just tell him that I'm not feeling well or something. Please Toni."
"Fine. But I'm only going to lie to him because I love you."
"Thank you so much."
"Kristen's feeling sick so she's going to miss out on lunch with us," Toni said going back out of the room to talk with AJ and Nick.
"Maybe I should stay here then and watch after her," AJ suggested.
"Bad idea. Kristen likes being left alone when she's sick," Toni lied.
"Well, then you two can go out together and I'll just sit here and work on a song I'm writing and try not to bother her, if you don't mind," AJ said. Toni wasn't sure about going out alone with Nick but she decided she should listen to Kristen about what she told her and go for it. She thought that Nick did deserve a chance.
"Alright, I'll see you later then," Toni said walking out the door.
"Thanks man," Nick said leaving after Toni. 'God please let nothing go wrong this time' Nick thought to himself as him and Toni got in his car and drove off.
