Chapter 55
"I'm sorry about the whole trip, Kristen," AJ said the next night as he dropped Kristen off at her apartment. Their flight had arrived in Orlando just a few hours earlier. "I really wanted you to have some fun. I didn't mean for it to turn into a huge mess."
"Don't worry about it. Besides what happened with my parents I had a lot of fun," Kristen said wrapping her arms around AJ and kissing him. "I'll call you tomorrow," Kristen said pulling away and walking into her apartment. She stepped inside and saw Toni sitting on the couch watching TV with a bunch of junk food around her. "Are you okay?" Kristen asked setting her luggage down and closing the door.
"No. Where the hell have you been when I really need you?" Toni asked.
"I was in Wyoming. You knew that."
"I don't care! You should have been here with me!"
"What the hell happened?"
"Nick and I broke up!"
"What!?!" Kristen asked surprised. "Are you serious?"
"Yes, I'm serious. We went over to his parents' house for dinner last night and he took me out on his boat and I pulled a little prank on him. He got totally pissed off at me and started yelling at me and all that shit."
"Did you just have a fight or is it really over?"
"I walked out of the house leaving all pissed off. I would say it's really over."
"Has Nick tried calling you?" Kristen asked as the phone rang.
"Don't answer it, it's Nick," Toni said when Kristen went to pick up the phone. Kristen picked it up anyways.
"Hello?"
"Kristen, it's Nick. When did you get home?"
"Just a few minutes ago."
"How'd your trip go?"
"New subject. Do you need to talk to Toni?" Kristen asked as Toni started shaking her head no at her.
"Yeah I do. Did she tell you what happened last night?"
"Just a little. I don't know much. Hold on let me get her," Kristen said pressing the hold button on the phone. "How many times has he tried to call you since last night?"
"I don't know. The phone has been ringing all day long. I haven't bothered to answer it."
"Okay what the hell did he do that you are completely ignoring him for?" Kristen demanded.
"I'll tell you after you hang up with him."
"I'm not going to lie and say you got in the shower or something."
"Then don't."
"Fine," Kristen said taking the phone off of hold. "Nick....." Kristen began when Nick cut her off.
"Let me guess she's sleeping, washing her hair, or not there," Nick said sarcastically.
"The third one."
"Where is she then?"
"She's in PMS ville right now so I'll have her call you back," Kristen said hanging up the phone.
"That was wrong," Toni said.
"No, you are wrong Toni. Now what happened and I don't want to hear what Nick did I want to know what you did too." For about the next hour Toni explained to Kristen everything that happened with her and Nick on his boat and if front of his parents the night before. When she finished Kristen just looked at her.
"Aren't you going to say anything?" Toni asked.
"Yeah, I'll see you in the morning. I'm going to bed," Kristen said getting up to walk to her room.
"That's it. You're not going to help me out with Nick?"
"No, it's retarded. The whole thing is stupid. Nick is trying to apologize to you and you're being stubborn and won't talk to him," Kristen said walking in her room and slamming the door behind her. Toni got up and walked into Kristen's room to see her laying on the bed hugging a big teddy bear AJ had gotten her a few weeks earlier with tears coming out of her eyes. She went and sat down next to her on the bed.
"Did you and AJ get in a fight while you guys were in Wyoming?" Toni asked.
"No, we're fine."
"Well, you can't be crying over me and Nick so what happened?"
"AJ and I got in a fight with my parents that's all."
"About what?"
"I do believe you have your own problems with Nick to deal with Toni. When you get that figured out I'll lay my problems on you." Toni didn't say anything just up and left shutting the door behind her.
The next morning Kristen woke up and went into the kitchen to find AJ making breakfast. "When did you get here?" Kristen asked tiredly standing behind AJ and wrapping her arms around him.
"Not to long ago. Toni let me in."
"Where is she?"
"She got in the shower about ten minutes ago. Did you know that her and Nick are fighting?"
"Yeah I found out as soon as I walked in the door last night. How did you know about it?"
"Nick called and woke me up at two in the morning. Does Toni know about what happened with your parents?"
"No. I told her she had her own problems to deal with before I let her in on mine." There was a knock on the door and Kristen answered it to see Nick standing on the other side.
"May I come in?" Nick asked. Kristen stepped aside and allowed Nick to enter shutting the door behind him. "Did you tell Toni to call me back?"
"I'm not getting in the middle of this Carter. This is between you and Toni."
"Wow," Nick said shocked.
"What?" Kristen asked confused.
"You haven't called me Carter since we broke up."
"So, it slipped," Kristen said simply.
"Oh you know you still love me," Nick said sarcastically giving Kristen a hug.
"Get off of me," Kristen said shoving him away.
"Yes please do," AJ said coming out of the kitchen with two plates of pancakes and bacon.
"Ah, you made me breakfast," Nick said.
"No, I made Toni and Kristen breakfast."
"Well that was sweet of you AJ," Toni said coming out of the bathroom not seeing Nick until she was in the living room. "What the hell are you doing here?" she asked when she saw him.
"You won't return or answer any of my calls so I had to come here to get you to talk to me."
"And you let him in?" Toni asked glaring at Kristen.
"Don't you dare bring me into this one girl."
"Why do you keep on ignoring my phone calls?" Nick asked.
"Because I want to. Just like I'm ignoring you right now," Toni said walking to her room and slamming the door behind her. Nick just looked at Kristen and AJ then went down the hall and opened Toni's door and closing it behind him. "You know if my door is shut it means you don't come in."
"Listen, I'm sorry I was rude to you."
"What did your parents say about how rude you were?"
"I got a lecture from them saying I'm crazy if I lose you."
"So you're trying to keep me to please your parents. I see how it is now get out."
"How many times do I have to apologize to you for you to forgive me?"
"I won't. You can play the jokes on everyone with a laugh but when I pull one on you I'm automatically the biggest bitch in the world."
"You have to forgive me Toni!" Nick yelled.
"And why is that Nick?"
"Because I love you. You can't honestly tell me that you don't love me and that you never want to be with my again now can you?" Toni looked down at the ground for a couple of seconds before she spoke.
"Get out of my room and my apartment Nick," Toni said softly without looking up at him. Nick stared at her for a few seconds with tears coming to his eyes before he turned away and left her bedroom. As soon as the door closed behind him Toni fell down on her knees and began crying.
"You okay man?" AJ asked when he saw Nick. Nick looked at him for a second then turned his head back and left the apartment.
