Chapter 56
Kristen and AJ watched as Nick left neither of them saying a word for a couple of seconds. "I can't believe she broke it off with him," Kristen said.
"How do you know that?" AJ asked.
"Because I've seen that look of pain on his face before. I have to talk to Toni," Kristen said getting up and walking towards Toni's room.
"I thought you said you weren't going to get in the middle of it."
"I also never thought that she would break up with him. She can't do that to herself or to him." Kristen slowly opened Toni's bedroom door and closed it behind her when she walked in. She saw her sitting on the floor crying. Kristen went and sat down in front of her. "Why?" she asked Toni after about a minute of silence.
"Why what?" Toni asked looking up wiping her eyes.
"Why in the hell did you break up with him?"
"He treated me like crap the other night. I don't need to put up with that shit from any guy no matter how much I love him."
"He didn't treat you like crap! You had a fucking fight Toni! Every couple has them!"
"Not you and AJ! I have never seen you guys fight once!"
"We used to! Before we started dating I hated him for everything I thought he was punishing me for. We started dating and we have other problems to deal with and have no room for fighting. Besides, this is about you and Nick not me and AJ."
"There is no me and Nick. It's over," Toni said through tears.
"I can't even talk to you! You are being so stubborn! You just allowed yourself to lose the most important thing in your life over the stupidest thing in history!" Kristen yelled leaving her room slamming the door behind her.
"Don't think you did much talking," AJ said sarcastically referring to all the yelling.
"Do you know how stupid this is!" Kristen yelled at him.
"Kristen it will work out. Nick won't lose her, he'll refuse to. Why are you getting so worked up about this."
"Because I was stupid and lost Nick and I'll be damned if I let her lose him too!" AJ stood there staring at Kristen not saying anything about the words he just heard leave his girlfriend's mouth. "Shit, AJ, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like it sounded," Kristen apologized when she realized why AJ was looking at her in such a way.
"You have rehearsals to get to. When you get home and have your life figured out with what you want give me a call," AJ said walking out of the apartment.
"Damn it!" Kristen yelled as she picked up a glass and threw it at the wall causing it to shatter. She grabbed her bag off the couch and headed out the door to get to rehearsals since she was already running late.
After rehearsals Kristen drove over to Kevin's house to talk to him. "Hey Kristen. How was your trip?" Kevin asked when he opened the door to see Kristen on the other side.
"Let's not talk about that. Have you talked to Nick or AJ?" Kristen asked walking in his house.
"Not since yesterday, why?"
"Because I messed up like usual."
"What happened?" Kevin asked sitting down on the couch with Kristen sitting next to him facing him.
"Toni broke it off with Nick over a stupid fight that had no point to it. I yelled at Toni for it after Nick left and AJ asked me why I was getting so worked up about it. I sort of accidentally said something about me losing Nick before and I won't let Toni and he got a little upset with me about it. It totally slipped Kevin. I didn't mean it and AJ walked out the door."
"AJ's not mad at you Kristen," Kevin said reassuringly.
"How do you know that? He walked out of my apartment."
"I know because he can't be mad at you. He's never been able to. He loves you to much. If you just call him later everything will be okay between you two. And let Toni and Nick figure out what's going on between them."
"You are absolutely right. I have my own problems to deal with right now I shouldn't get involved with other's problems."
"What problems do you have besides AJ?" Kevin asked a little confused.
"Just stuff that happened in Wyoming. Speaking of being in Wyoming could you do me a huge favor?"
"Depending on what it is."
"When we were in Wyoming I ran into one of my best friends and she saw AJ with me and totally spazed out. She started freaking out saying that if I was dating AJ that I must know you and..."
"And you promised her I would call her?" Kevin asked interrupting Kristen.
"Sort of. You don't have to call her if you don't want to and I'm sorry for even promising her."
"Don't worry about it," Kevin said getting up and picking up the phone. "What's her number?" Kristen hugged Kevin and thanked him for choosing to call Theresa and she gave him her number. Kevin let the phone ring a few times before someone picked up. Kristen could only hear Kevin's side of the conversation until he told her it was Kevin Richardson and he had to pull the phone away from his ear and Kristen could hear Theresa screaming and flipping out. Kevin tried to talk to her and calm her down but she kept on screaming and began crying. "She's making me go deaf. Can you please tell her she needs to stop screaming?" Kevin asked handing Kristen the phone.
"Theresa please....." Kristen said into the phone when Theresa interrupted her with screaming.
"It's Kevin!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" Theresa screamed.
"Girl, you need to calm down."
"I can't! It's Kevin!!!!!!"
"Well, you won't talk to Kevin unless you stop screaming," Kristen said as she heard dead silence on the other end. "She's calm," she said handing the phone back to Kevin. Kevin took the phone back and talked with Theresa for about an hour before hanging up and telling her he would call her another time. "Thank you. I appreciate you calling her," Kristen said.
"No prob. It's getting late. You better start heading back home and think about stopping by AJ's place on your way home."
"Thanks Kevin," Kristen said giving him a hug then headed out the door. She drove to AJ's place and stood on his porch ringing the door bell for about 5 minutes until she finally left depressed that AJ wasn't home. She figured he was out clubbing hitting on some other girl. She went home and entered into a dark apartment. She turned on the light to see AJ sitting on the couch. Kristen went and sat down next to him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean what I said about Nick. The two of us breaking up was the best thing that ever happened to me because it got me together with you. I love you AJ," Kristen said as AJ sat there in silence.
"That's all I needed to hear," AJ said wrapping Kristen in his arms and kissing her.
"Is Toni here?" Kristen asked pulling away.
"Yeah, she let me in then went back to her room. She's been in there for a few hours now."
"Good, I need to talk to her," Kristen said getting up.
"Wait," AJ said grabbing her arm.
"Please don't get yourself all worked up over those two. I know how you can get."
"AJ don't you see what's happening? She's doing exactly what I did when I found Nick and Cassie in bed together. I put myself through hell and wouldn't eat or anything. We can't let her do that. I know how bad it hurts."
"What would happen if something like that happened between you and me?" AJ asked curiously.
"I would probably kill myself so don't do it to me."
"Wasn't planning on it. You go talk to Toni and I'll call Nick up," AJ said as Kristen left for Toni's room. She walked in to see her laying on her bed just staring at the ceiling.
"Can I ask you something?" Kristen asked sitting down on the bed.
"What?" Toni asked not taking her eyes off the ceiling.
"Do you love Nick?"
"What kind of question is that to be asking?" Toni asked turning her head and looking at Kristen.
"A question that I want an honest answer to. Now do you love him?" Kristen repeated. Toni just looked at her as tears welled up in her eyes.
"Yes," she said as a tear rolled down her cheek.
"Okay just wondering," Kristen said hopping off the bed with a smile on her face.
"That's it? No yelling at me saying how stupid I am and I can't lose Nick?" Toni asked confused.
"Yes, that's it," Kristen said walking out of the room. "Did you get a hold of Nick?" Kristen asked AJ.
"No, he's either not home or he's not answering his phone. That was a short conversation you had with Toni."
"There wasn't much to be said. She admitted that she loved Nick. AJ, we have to get them two back together."
