John Alfonzo FORD was born 6 Jan 1819 in Ohio Co., Kentucky. He died 14 May 1894 and was buried in Old Salem Cemetery, Ohio Co., Kentucky.

John married Martha Jane KEOWN on 15 Oct 1840 in Ohio Co., Kentucky

    Father of John:
Joseph FORD (II) was born about 1795, probably in Washington Co, TN. He died Aug 1868 in Ohio Co., Kentucky and was buried in Old Salem Cemetery, Ohio Co., Kentucky.

Joseph was bonded to marry (1) Rebecca RATLIFF on 11 Nov 1816 in Floyd Co., Kentucky. Rebecca was born 1801 in Virginia. It is not know whether the marriage was actually performed or what happened to Rebecca.

Joseph married (2) Lucinda AUTRY, daughter of John AUTRY and Dolly PIPER, on 23 Dec 1817 in Barren Co., Kentucky. Lucinda was born 1794 in Kentucky. She died 1859 in Ohio Co., Kentucky and was buried in Old Salem Cemetery, Ohio Co., Kentucky.

    Father of Joseph:
Joseph FORD (I) was born about 1757 in Frederick Co., Colony of Maryland. He died about 1845 and was buried in an open field near Fords Branch, Pike Co. Kentucky. Joseph served in the Revolutionary War in the North Carolina Militia. After the war he lived in the State of Franklin or what became Washington and Carter Co., Tennessee. Later he moved his family to the Floyd / Pike Co., Kentucky area.

Joseph married Ruth PHILIPS on 1791 in Tennesse. Ruth was born before 1765, possibly in Holston River, Sullivan Co., Tennessee. She died about 1829 in Pike Co., Kentucky.

    Margaret's mother, Martha Jane KEOWN:
The KEOWN family originally came from South Carolina. They came to Warren Co, Ky and then went to Ohio Co.,KY. Thomas Keown was born in County Down,Ulster, Ireland in 1740 and died in Warren Co., Ky in 1808. He and Elizabeth "Betsy" Young Keown left South Carolina for Kentucky in or about the year 1804. Thomas Keown was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He and brother James Alexander Keown had immigrated from Ireland County of Down, Province of Ulster, before the Revolution
IF YOU ARE A KEOWN WITH ROOTS IN KENTUCKY, HERE IS YOUR LINE: In 1804 THOMAS KEOWN left South Carolina for KENTUCKY.

Thomas Keown was married first to Mary Polly Caldwell and had these three children:

    1. John Keown ,born 1767 in Ireland.
    2. Nancy Keown, born 1770 in South Carolina.
    3. Robert Keown born 1773 in South Carolina.

Polly Caldwell Keown died and THOMAS KEOWN married his SECOND WIFE Elizabeth "Betsy" YOUNG. Thomas and Betsy Keown had the following children:

    1. Thomas ,born 1778 in South Carolina.
    2. Jenney, born 1782.
    3. Andrew S., born 1783. He married Rachel ___ and migrated to Georgia from South Carolina.
    4. Nathan L., born 1785. m. Nancy Likins
    5. Alexander, born 1787.
    6. James A., born 1790.
    7. William, born 1795.
    8. Betsy, born 1797.
    9. Mary Polly, born 1800.
    10. Samuel, born 1802.
    11. Matthew was born in Kentucky in 1807.

Note:All of the above were born in South Carolina except Matthew.

Now, off Thomas Keown's oldest son John Keown born 1767 m. Margaret White, you have these children:

    1. William ,born 1793.
    2. Andrew, born 1794 (often confused with his uncle Andrew).
    3. Nancy Caldwell, born 1796.
    4. Thomas Porter, born 1798.
    5. Mary White, born 1801.
    6. John White, born 1803.
    7. Peggy Means, born 1807.
    8. Alexander Jefferson, born 1809.
    9. James Caldwell, born 1812 died 1847 in KY.

Now then, the Georgia Keown families come from Thomas's son Andrew Keown and from Thomas's brother James Alexander Keown. Thomas Keown and his brother James Alexander Keown landed at Charleston before the Revolutionary War and both were soldiers in that war. There were of course other McKeown families that came from Ireland to America, but most folks named Keown tie to one of these two brothers.
