Legba

Legba is associated with Heviosso the thunder god. when a bull is sacrificed toi Heviosso A smaller tribute is usually made to Legba (usually a kid).

Personal shrines to Legba (called legbas) are kept near to houses. They are in the form of a clay man with a moulded phallus, this represents the master of the house. In front of the legba are small clay pots (one to represent each member of the family).

The pots are regularly filled with food and the legba's phallus is annointed with flour and oil. Sometimes a chicken will be sacrificed and the feathers stuch to the phallus with blood.

The African Legba is the original of the Haitian god Legba, but the Africans consider him a devil. this may be because he was once an important god who was deposed. Deposed gods often become devils.
