Macha

An aspect of the Morrigan, Macha's name means 'crow', and she fed on the heads of men who are killed in battle. Severed enemy heads were often offered to Macha as tribute.

She is very strong and dominates males through cunning and physical force. She has animal characteristics.

Macha ran a race against the fastest horses in the land, despite the fact that she was heavily pregnant. She came in first and gave birth to twins on the finishing line but perished imediately afterwards.

Macha is honoured at the feast of Lughnasadh (1st Aug)
