Amun

Amun was the local Theban deity but grew in importance as the city grew to be a powerful metropolis.

He became the chief god of Egypt 'King of the Gods'. He has been attributed the sacred ram and the goose (a symbol of sexual power).

He then grew to be the patron of the pharaohs and was linked with the sun as Amun-Ra the supreme god.

The worship of all the gods (including Amun) waned during the reign of Akhenaten, but after his death, Tut-ankh-aten (the new pharaoh) changed his name to show his allegiance to Amun. He became Tut-ankh-amun.
