Rama
Rama was born into royaly but had to leave due to his step mother plotting against him. His wife 'Sita' went with him despite the dangers of the jungle. Ravana (the demon king of the Rakshashas) lured Rama away with a phantom deer and abducted Sita.
Sita was held captive in Sri Lanka until she was discovered by an eagle and Rama set out with an army to rescue her. The army crossed over a bridge to Sri lanka and engaged the demons in battle. Rama shot off Ravana's ten heads with arrows, but they grew again. Eventually Rama shot a magic arrow (made by Agastya) into Ravana's chest and killed him.
Rama would not take Sita back immediately however. He refused to do so until her purity was publicly demonstrated as he did not want there to be any rumours about her being abused by the demon. Eventually Sita built a funeral pyre and climbed into the flames. The flames refused to hurt her and she took on the shape of a divine being and was raised above the fire. Rama was satisfied and took her back.
