Freyja

Freyja has a twin brother named Freyr and was married to Od. She was on of the Vanir (the family of gods who governed fertility). She had incestuous relations with her brother and, it is said, she wept rears of gold for her husband when he disappeared.

Four dwarves made a wonderous necklace 'The Brisingamen' (or Brosingamene, 'necklace of the Brosings'). Freyja gained posession of the necklace by sleeping with each of the dwarves in turn and it became the symbol of her sexuality.

Freyja had the ability to fly. She was also the patroness of a kind of witchcraft called 'Seithr' which involved the sorceress going into a trance and answering questions about the future.

Freyja's worshippers practiced orgiastic rites similar to thise of Isis (Egyptian Goddess) and Cybele (Greek Goddess). Freyja also watched over women in labour.
