Thor

Thor is best known for his hammer 'Mjollnirr' (the mill). He controls the weather and crops and is very uncomplicated. He loves food and drink and was worshipped well into Christian times. Along with his hammer Thor wears a girdle of strength and iron gloves.

Thor's followers used to embed stones or metal into the heads of his images and used them to make holy fire. This probably stems from the story of Thor and the giant Hrungnir. The two battled and Thor threw his hammer at the giant. In retalliation the giant threw a huge whetstone at the god. The stone shattered but a large piece of it buried itself in Thor's skull and was never removed.
