And Jesus was with them on their Day of Terror September 11, 2001. Hi , My name is Connie and here you will find some information on my Simmons family.I am just now begining to put some of this together with some help from family and friends. Some of this information I have gathered here there and yon, but some has also came from the inter-net. There were Three, related, William Henry Simmons living in Logan County at the same time. In about 1807, three brothers, William Henry, Benjamin and John Simmons removed from Bute/Franklin Co., NC and settled in Logan. Benjamin named his son William Henry Simmons in honor of his brother. In the early 1820's, another William Henry Simmons showed up -- he was the only child of Henry Simmons, the deceased brother of William Henry, Benjamin and John. Because he had an uncle and a first cousin with the same names nearby, he changed the spelling of his name to SimmonDs. William Henry Simmonds was married to Martha Nance Sneed, and they had a large family. She died and he remarried and had more children. Talking about being confused it certainly can do that. I was looking for my Polly Simmons Knight's mother's name when I discovered this. UPDATE My Williams wife's name is Nancy Duff. William Simons or Simmons wife's name is Charity SEARS . The names of their children are very similar to my William Simmons. So pull up that chair, grab some snack's , something to drink and enjoy your selves while we expore this part of this family together. William Simmons Family of Logan County , Kentucky . From the Georgia Crosswaite book on Pg. 34 she cites material supplied by Edward M. Manley from old court records of Muhlenberg Co., Ky., And copied by her in February 1954: "... Aunt Nan said in 1952 that the Duff part of Duff Green Simmons' name came from the surname of the mother of Richard H. Simmons." Elsewhere in the Crosswaite book, Manley states "Richard H. Notes for RADNEY KNIGHT: From "The Chronicle of Knights and Simmons" by Carmon Knight Mercer, Feb. 12, 1979, McDowell Publications, Route 4, Box 314 Utica, Kentucky 42376: Radney Knight first appears in Logan Co.Ky where he is shown on the military and tax lists of 1818 and 1820. (Note from me. ~ evidence say's different as he married Married"Polly" Simmons in 1816, Logan County.) "Radney (Knight) evidently had no schooling for he signed his will with an X" Carmon describes the family cemetery where Radney Knight and Mary "Polly" Simons are buried , "They are buried in a family cemetery on his farm which had been owned by Effie Hudnal, she is now dead. There is a tombstone at his and her graves. I had been told only two graves were there but we found about thirty. No other markers are there; only low places outline the graves. Two stones are at his and Mary's grave. His was broken off. We reset it in 1966. There was also an old fence line around the cemetery." "There is one thing I believe is certain and that is that Radney and Mary are buried on the hillside on his old farm along with unknown members of his family" (Photographs of these two graves appear in her book on page 5.) Radney Knight's will was dated Sept 19, 1845, and was recorded in Butler County three years later. Radney bought land in Butler County at Rock Springs in 1815? Notes for RADNEY KNIGHT: From "The Chronicle of Knights and Simmons" by Carmon Knight Mercer, Feb. 12, 1979, McDowell Publications, Route 4, Box 314 Utica, Kentucky 42376:
Radney Knight first appears in Logan Co.Ky where he is shown on the military and tax lists of 1818 and 1820. (Note from me. ~ evidence say's different as he married Married"Polly" Simmons in 1816, Logan County.) "Radney (Knight) evidently had no schooling for he signed his will with an X"
Carmon describes the family cemetery where Radney Knight and Mary "Polly" Simons are buried , "They are buried in a family cemetery on his farm which had been owned by Effie Hudnal, she is now dead. There is a tombstone at his and her graves. I had been told only two graves were there but we found about thirty. No other markers are there; only low places outline the graves. Two stones are at his and Mary's grave. His was broken off. We reset it in 1966. There was also an old fence line around the cemetery."
"There is one thing I believe is certain and that is that Radney and Mary are buried on the hillside on his old farm along with unknown members of his family" (Photographs of these two graves appear in her book on page 5.)
Radney Knight's will was dated Sept 19, 1845, and was recorded in Butler County three years later.
Radney bought land in Butler County at Rock Springs in 1815? The Knight family cemetery is located here about one mile from Rock Springs Baptist Church in a wooded area on the opposite side of the road from the church on land Radney bought from William Jenkins (200 acres for $200) on Dec 3, 1836.
