The last dynasty of Egypt's Old Kingdom period during which the central authority of the Pharoah lost power to the many nomarchs (provincial rulers) in Egypt. After the death of Pepi II, the central authority crumbled and Egypt was tossed into the period of anarchy known today as the Second Intermediate period.
