Future Outlook

The future of the club seems bleak. Crowd support has been dwindling over the past few years and the situation will continue to worsen unless something is done urgently. Now is the time to salvage the situation. It is high time the club was transformed into a fully professional unit. Several practical ideas have been floated in the past. For example former chairman Lesley Okudo suggested that the club should go public and float

its shares in the Nairobi stock exchange. He was however shouted down by certain "members" who said that they would not like the ownership of the club to go to a few well endowed individuals. My question to them is would they rather see the club sink further ?

There is nothing wrong with the club being owned by a few individuals. Several European clubs such as AC Milan and Real Madrid still command large followings and are hugely succesfull despite being owned by a single individual. Secondly if the club

follows this path transparently it would lead to several members buying shares which will prevent any single individual from buying a majority of the shares.

A second suggestion would be for the club to pursue a more aggressive membership drive. Membership cards should be sold to fans during matches involving the club all across the country. By selling the cards at a reasonable yearly fee like sh 100

the club can ensure an annual subsrcription of at least 100,000 members. North African clubs like Zamalek and Esperance have applied this technique to perfection. I am sure the there are thousands of fans who would be willing to pay a certain amount yearly to support the club. The key here is for club officials to pursue a more aggressive membership drive by selling cards at matches and by holding monthly membership drives.

We should not just sit back and watch helplessly as the club which has meant a lot to us sinks further into mediocrity. Action should be taken now. Another suggestion would be for club officials to keep fans abreast with what is happening within the club rather than just keeping us in the dark. When fans watch what they perceive as a mediocre display by the players they may not understand that there are factors such as non payment of allowances.
