Self-Image

The sad eyed girl sat by the brook.

Once, again, she chose to look

Upon her image floating there,

The contours of her face and hair.

Into the brook her hand she dipped.

The water with her fingers whipped.

She looked again as the water stilled,

Motionless, amazement-filled

to find her image was not there.
