I had known Vlad Dracula since we were boys. Vlad and I became close friends over the years, and although I sensed a dark side to my friend, I loved and trusted him. Vlad was just a few years older than I, and our rivalry for the affection of the Lady Bryna was legendary.

As our country was embroiled in a war against the Turks, rumors abound that Vlad was an evil man and would impale his victims and torture them mercilessly. I dismissed these tales as being nothing more than attempts by the enemy to discredit our leader.
