I'm not well informed on the Tenchi series, so please excuse any errors on my part.
Tenchi Muyo in Love 2, Or Tenchi Forever how they call it in the US, is the last (so they say) installment of the Tenchi series.

In an attempt to avoid choosing between Ayeka (princess of the planet Jurai) and Ryoko (space piratress), Tenchi wanders off into the mountains and disappears. Lady Washu's (mad scientest chick) instruments detect that Tenchi is in Tokyo, so Ryoko and Ayeka take up jobs as waitresses there while Sasami (Ayeka's little sister) travels to Jurai for more information. The girls finally find Tenchi, after much frustration. He's aged several years, despite the fact that he's only been gone about half a year.

Lady Washu discovers that Tenchi is trapped in a parallel world with a girl named Haruna, and time is moving much faster then in the real world. Tenchi is attending an art college, and he and Haruna are lovers. And he has no memory of Ayeka, Ryoko, or the rest of his family.

As it turns out, Haruna is the spirit of Master Yosho's (tenchi's grandfather) first love, a forbidden relationship that lead to them leaving Jurai in the first place. Haruna dies on the way, and Yosho honours her memory by planting her tree, the camilla, all over Japan. Evetually Yosho moved on to Tenchi's grandmother. Haruna's spirit is jealous, and unaged, she kidnaps Tenchi to live out the dream she couldn't finish with Master Yosho.

Haruna's universe exsists withen the boundary of the tree's Yosho planted. Lady Washu transports Ryoko and Ayeka there, but they can't convince Tenchi of what's going on. An angry Yosho talks to Haruna, and convinces her to release Tenchi. Ryoko rescues him from the shrinking universe just in time

There's a lot of debate between hardcore Tenchi Muyo fans over this movies. Some enjoy it. Some Princess Ayeka fans don't like it because it gives the slight impression that Tenchi loves Ryoko, and/or Ryoko's feelings for Tenchi are the strongest. Other don't like it because they never really say who Tenchi loves, and it is the LAST of the series.

I have to say that I really liked the movie. I'm the queen of buying anime movies on a whim, usually bad anime movies, *shudder*, so this was a welcome change. It shows that Ayeka and Ryoko's dedication to Tenchi is real, not a shallow jealousy trip between each other or shallow physical infatuatuon. Tenchi Forever is unrated, but I recommend it for 13 and up, as sex between Haruna and Tenchi is suggestive, and a tiny amount of shots of Haruna naked, top only.
