Toni Collette was born November 1, 1972. She's the eldest of three children. She left school at the age of sixteen and studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, which she then left after eighteen months to pursue her theater career.

She first appeared on the movie scene in 1991 in the film Spotswood. She made her biggest splash though in 1994 when she played Muriel Heslop in Muriel's Wedding, which she gained 42 pounds to do.

In her free time she likes to go on mental and spiritual retreats in India. She also does yoga and has climbed the Tibetan Himalayas. She is also a vegetarian.

She has won many awards. Most recently and most notably she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Sixth Sense. She lost it to Angelina Jolie, though. But it's all good, she still got nominated and that counts for something right?!?
