You hated the busy streets
Like me
The way the traffic would skid around the corners
Like death racing cars
Rushing against already lost time
I loved those corners
Always quickly dashing out into the blaring music of blowing horns
Feeling your fingers fill the empty spaces of my open hand
As you held yourself so tightly to my side
So close
Your apple scented cologne tickled at my nose
Trailing a path behind us
Zigzaging
In our flight to the safety of the otherside of the side walk
It was there, I would stop and pause, for the last moment
As I watched you sigh and catch the air
Before feeling you slowly, with such gentle reluctance
Fall from my side and escape my tiny palm
Til once again we were separate souls on the side walk
Yes, you hated those busy streets
But just maybe you loved those corners
Like me
For it was the only time we’d touch as one
