About The Band
Lynwood Lunsford formed this traditional bluegrass band in early 2000. Band members are Lynwood - banjo, Travers
Chandler - guitar, Andy Martin - fiddle, and Gary Baird - acoustic bass. The Misty Valley Boys traditional sound is
characterized by solid instrumentation, soulful lead singing and tight harmony vocals. The group is enthusiastically received
wherever they appear. The nature of band members? ?day jobs? is such that the band can travel anywhere at any time. They
will welcome the opportunity to present their clean, professional show at your venue.
Lynwood Lunsford, who lives in Axton, Virginia, has been playing music most of his life and has been in semi-professional
and professional bands since 1978. His most notable band gigs were two years with Jimmy Martin, five years with Lost &
Found and one year with Sand Mountain. Although he is generally recognized as a hard-driving and tasteful banjo picker,
Lynwood is also an accomplished guitarist.
In 1998, Sand Mountain recorded the album ?Molly Rose,? HH-1339 on the Hay Holler label. The title cut, written by
Lynwood, rose to #9 on the Bluegrass Unlimited chart and remained on the chart 11 months. Lynwood, as an individual,
signed with Hay Holler Records in 1999 and recorded an instrumental album, HH-1349, ?Pick Along.? After forming the
Misty Valley Boys, the band recorded the album ?A Portrait Of The Blues,? HH-1355, released in November 2000.
Gary Baird, the group?s bass player, lives in Berea, Kentucky, and has played with Lynwood in various regional groups over
the years. He taught himself how to play the guitar while overseas in the Navy, listening to Seldom Scene tapes.
Travers Chandler makes his home in Roxboro, North Carolina and plays guitar and sings lead for The Misty Valley Boys,
but knows how to play banjo, mandolin, bass, and autoharp as well. He was also raised in a musical family and taught himself
how to play the guitar by listening to records. He has played with several regional bluegrass and country rock bands in the
Durham Raleigh region.
Andy Martin who hails from Whittier, California, now calls Yanceyville, North Carolina home. He?s the group?s fiddle player
as well as singing bass and occasional lead vocals. He started on the fiddle 20 years ago, taking lessons from several fiddle
players, including Joe Meadows. Andy has played with a range of bands - from Country and Old-Time to Grunge Rock,
including Dean Stoneman & Vintage Grass, Busch Gardens Country Show, a few shows with Buzz Busby, and various
Off-Broadway productions.
