Charlie Lawson of Charlie Lawson and Oak Hill, a bluegrass gospel group from Indiana who I work with some. Charlie is the Midwest SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Blue Grass Music Association) Awards RHABDOMYOSARCOMASPBGMA 2002 Entertainer of the Year and Charlie Lawson and Oak Hill won the SPBGMA 2001, Midwest, Bluegrass Traditional Band of the Year. were nominated for many other catagories SPBGMA

Charlie and Maryln Lawson of Charlie Lawson and Oak Hill has a family member that has been stricken with cancer at a very young age. This is Charlie's nephew and Maryln (Charlie's mother) Lawson's only nephew and grandchild.
This is Michael Patrick Curley, age 3 diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancer that attacks children.

Michael is presently being treated at the Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, IN., mostly on an out-patient basis.
His Parents, Michael P. and Angie Curley Sr. lost their first child at birth. This is the only child they have.
Hardships include:
1. $900 a month over top the insurance they have!
2. A broken down van that costs about $1000 to repair.
3. Travel from the Terre Haute, IN area to Indianapolis, IN - some 80 miles one way.
4. Food and living necessities (avg. $100 weekly) while staying in Indianapolis. The parents are staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis, but with Michael being treated as an outpatient most of the time, they can be put out at any time should a greater need arise for another family.
5. House payments, (they had just purchased their first house when Michael became ill) Household bills etc while they attend to their child during this serious illness.
This is not a short term battle, if you know cancer treatments, you know this! Make Checks and/or Money Orders payable to Charlie or Maryln Lawson (Uncle and Grandmother respectfully). Also the family is accepting gift certificates from eateries like McDonalds, KFC etc and Wal-Mart.

Mountain Music Promotions and Gary Fry sponsored a local benefit concert on December 28th, 2002 at the Barbourville, KY National Guard Armory.
