Clark County (4-2) vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar (4-2)
October 5, 2000This is Dunbar's first official homecoming game and they have a worthy opponent in the Clark County Cardinals. Paul Columbia's Clark County squad is led on offense by the running of 5-10 200 pound Jr. Chris Sharrock and the passing tandem of Jr. Mark Christopher to Sr. Travis Ervin. The 6-2 Ervin has snared 30 passes for 825 yards and 8 scores. The Cardinals also have an added weapon in kicker Donnie Johnson.
The Dunbar Bulldogs of Coach Mike Meighan have been led this season by QB Chip Franklin who has completed 101 of 178 passing attempts for 1450 yards and 14 touchdowns. Nathan Jones, Derek Talbert, and Corey Dunn lead the receiving corps with 26, 25, and 21 receptions respectively. Corey Dunn leads the ground attack with 552 yards on 91 carries and has found the end zone 8 times. The Bulldog defense has been led by 6-3 240 LB Jacob Koch, who has recorded 84 tackles this season.
Dunbar roared out of the blocks to take an early 7-0 lead and never looked back on their way to a 41-10 victory. QB Chip Franklin led the Bulldog attack with 17 completions of 32 attempts for 311 yards and three TD passes. Corey Dunn caught two TD passes of 70 and 17 yards. The 70 yard reception was a thing of beauty as he took a short pass from Chip Franklin, made two excellent open field moves, and outran the remaining defenders to the end zone. Reserve QB Josh Ellis got into the act with a 17 yard scoring strike to Corey Dunn. Clark County was led by running back Chris Sharrock who carried the ball 13 times for 162 yards and one score.
