This could be called the Battle of Louisville as Trinity and Male will battle today for the coveted 4A title. Male is a five time state champion while Trinity has captured twelve titles.
Trinity coach Bob Beatty has opened up the Shamrocks’ offense a bit more this year and it has paid dividends for the first year Trinity head man. QB Geoff Riddle has completed 192 of 311 passes for 2652 yards and 26 scoring strikes. Erik Brown has caught 46 passes for 614 yards and five scores. Jimmy Murray snared 40 passes for 634 yards and six touchdowns, and Alex Hennessy added 37 receptions for 562 yards with six scores. Powerful running back Vince Phillips returned after an injury to gain 953 yards on 117 carries and reached the end zone 18 times.
Coach Bob Redman’s Male Bulldogs have been led this year by all-everything WR Montrell Jones who caught 69 passes for 919 yards and twelve touchdown receptions. So. Michael Bush added 57 receptions for 940 yards and ten scores. QB Brandon Blackerby completed 215 of 325 passes for 2790 yards and 29 TD passes. Chris Barclay led the Male ground attack with 1058 yards and 14 touchdowns on 145 rushing attempts
Male shocked Trinity by racing to a 34-0 halftime lead and coasted to a final 34-14 score to give Male their sixth title. Montrell Jones led the surge with two touchdown receptions and a 41 yard punt return for another score. Michael Bush had a 31 yard TD reception and intercepted two passes to help throttle a normally potent Trinity offense.
