Paintsville (11-2) vs. Newport Central Catholic (12-1) November 23, 2001
Kevin Smith scored three touchdowns and QB Jeff Smith completed 11 of 17 passes for 254 yards and four TDs to lead the Thorobreds to a 59-8 victory over Paintsville. NCC led by a score of 53-8 at halftime.

Danville (11-2) vs. Mayfield (8-5) November 23, 2001
Danville scored two touchdowns in the final five minutes to overcome a game Mayfield squad by a score of 17-10. Danville tied the score at 10-10 with five minutes remaining in the game on a Michael Woods 2 yard run. The Admiral defense shut down Mayfield on their next possession and Danville got the ball on their 40 with a few tics over two minutes remaining on the clock. Andrew Hopewell gave Danville the win with 11 seconds remaining in the game on a two yard TD run. Derek Parrott led the Mayfield ground game with 86 yards on 20 carries. Jr. Quarterback Adam Schott led Danville with 185 yards on 10 for 16 completions.

The Bardstown defense shutout Glasgow and Jamie Cotton reached the end zone twice in the final period to give his team a 21-0 victory. Cotton gained 94 yards for the game and Bardstown will now face Prestonsburg for the state 2A title.

Prestonsburg (12-1) vs. Mason County (12-1) November 23, 2001
Prestonsburg erupted for 18 points in the third quarter and the swarming Blackcat defense pressured Mason County QB Dustin Grutza the entire game on their way to an 18-13 victory. Grutza, a sophomore QB, passed for 79 yards. Mikeal Fannin led the Prestonsburg ground game with 86 yards on 13 carries while Matt Slone added 73 yards on 16 carries.

Class 3A Playoffs
Boyle County (13-0) vs. Hopkinsville (12-1) November 23, 2001
Boyle County scored on a Jeff Duggins 2 yard run with 2:51 remaining on the clock to give the Rebels a 28-21 victory over a tough Hopkinsville squad. The winning TD was set up on a botched Hopkinsville punt attempt. The snap went over the punter's head and when he attempted a pass, Boyle County's Jacob Tamme intercepted the pass and ran it to the Hopkinsville 32. Boyle County kept the ball on the ground the entire winning drive. Hopkinsville had one last shot on offense but the Boyle County defense shut their offense down. Boyle County was led by Casey McCoy, who rushed for 106 yards and a score. He also added a TD on an 85 yard fumble recovery. Hopkinsville's QB Blake Ladson completed 11 of 18 passes for 249 yards and three scoring strikes.

Rockcastle County rallied in the final period to nip Covington Catholic by a score of 17-14. The victors were led by QB Aaron Anderkin who passed for 72 yards and a score on 10 of 16 completions. Matt Reagan led the ground attack with 115 yards and the game-winning touchdown on 20 carries. Covington Catholic was led by QB Tim Grogan who completed 24 of 41 passes for 296 yards and two scoring strikes. Brian Piper caught eight passes for 85 yards.

Chris Barclay scored two touchdowns to lead Male to a 23-6 victory over Owensboro. Barclay had 151 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Owensboro was led by Bo Smith who carried the ball 16 times for 121 yards and scored the lone Owensboro TD on a 69 yard TD run.

Tates Creek (10-3) vs. Trinity (11-1) November 23, 2001
Trinity So. QB Brian Brohm completed 16 of 19 passes for 341 yards and five scoring strikes and ran the ball four times for 41 yards and another score. This performance coupled with a great performance by the Shamrock defenders led Trinity to a 50-0 victory over Tates Creek. The Trinity offense rolled up 533 yards and their defense limited Tates Creek to 152 yards and three turnovers.
