Introduction
Game One will match Class 4A Meade County against Class 4A Scott County. The Meade County Green Wave, coached by Larry French, finished 11-2 last season. Coach French lost a lot of talent to graduation, but the cupboard is not completely bare. Meade County welcomes back 6-5 200 pound QB Blake Powers who threw for over than 1000 yards and 11 TDs last year. 6-2 230 pound RB Nathan Barker returns after a 1000 yard campaign. LB Brian Crean, a 6-3 219 pound Sr., is expected to anchor the defense this season. The Scott County Cardinals, led by Coach Jim McKee, finished 9-3 last season. The Cardinals lost 21 seniors through graduation but still return a lot of talent. The offense will be led by 5-11 Jr. QB Chris Cronin, who threw for 1100 yards last season. His favorite target will be 5-11 Sr. Ryan Rennecker who caught 42 passes for 724 yards last season. The defense should be anchored this year by 6-2 226 pound Jr. LB Courtney White.
Game Two will pit Class 4A Madison Central against Class 4A Simon Kenton. Coach Paul Rains' Madison Central Indians finished 4-7 last season but the Indians have experience returning on both sides of the ball and should be improved. Last year's squad was decimated by injuries with several key players being out of the lineup for varying periods of time. Coach Jeff Marksberry's Simon Kenton Pioneers finished 5-5 last season and have enough talented players to make a run for a berth in the playoffs. 5-11 165 pound Sr. Joe Nevels is an outstanding free safety who also rushed for 10 TDs from his tailback slot last season. Sr QB Justin Bishop threw for over 1200 yards and connected for 14 touchdowns last year.
