Lafayette (5-1) vs. Tates Creek (2-3) October 4, 2002

*This game was supposed to be played in Tates Creek's new stadium but due to construction delays the game was moved to Dunbar.  While Dave Cantrall's rating has Tates Creek favored, it appears Lafayette may prevail this year.  Coach Mike Harmon has Lafayette heading in the right direction and with a victory tonight could ensure Lafayette's first winning season since 1986.  This has to be an emotional game for Coach Harmon as he played at Tates Creek, served as an assistant coach at the "Creek", and will have several friends on the other side of the field tonight.  Lafayette has been led this season by 5-9 223 pound RB Elrazor Sharp who has rushed for 908 yards this season.

Coach Mark Willoughby's Tates Creek Commodores come in with an uncharacteristic, by their standards, 2-3 record.  Coach Willoughby was encouraged by the improved play of his offensive line last week and will need a similar effort tonight to defeat the Generals.  RB Tray Hughes has been a bright spot for Tates Creek this season, rushing for 846 yards on and eight touchdowns in five games.

Lafayette defeated Tates Creek 14-0 tonight to assure the Generals of their first winning season since 1986.  Lafayette's depended on their trademark rushing attack and five Tates Creek turnovers to defeat Tates Creek for the first time in seven years.  A jarring hit by Spencer Fain and fumble recovery by Bilal El-Amin gave Lafayette the ball on the Tates Creek 34 at the 5:30 mark in the first quarter.  Brian Dinger later scored on a one yard run to give Lafayette 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.  Tates Creek mounted a threat late in the half but time expired with Tates Creek on the seven yard line of Lafayette.  The Generals scored an insurance TD in the third quarter on a 42 yard TD run by Elrazor Sharp

Lafayette was led tonight on offense by Elrazor Sharp who rushed for 119 yards and a TD on 20 carries.  Lafayette held a slim 188-170 yard edge on total offense.  Lafayette's swarming defense was led by linebackers Kevin White, Michael Murray, Mike George, and DL Brian Crutchfield.  Tates Creek was led by RB Tray Hughes with 90 yards on 24 rushing attempts.  The Tates Creek defense was led by LB Ross Taylor with seven solo and three assisted tackles.
