Coach Mark Peach's Dunbar Bulldogs come into this game with a 1-1 district slate and can hardly afford another loss. The Bulldogs are coming off a 14-10 loss to Bell County on the road. They have been led this year by QB Josh Ellis, who has completed 88 of 148 passes for 1421 yards and 10 touchdowns. Aaron Mason has carried the ball 81 times for 477 yards and two TDs. Mason has also caught 23 passes for 386 yards and four scores. Clint Keller has caught 21 passes for 360 yards and four touchdowns. The defense has been led this year by 6-1 200 pound Sr. LB Mark Wethington and 6-2 225 pound Sr. LB Rick Jones.
Coach Mike Harmon's Lafayette Generals come into this game 3-0 in district play and have forced 27 turnovers while only committing 13 miscues of their own. The General defense has been led this season by 6-1 224 pound Sr. LB Mike George, 6-1 206 pound Sr. DL Tim Lewis, 6-0 164 pound Sr. LB Kevin White, and 6-4 192 pound DE Bilal El-Amin among others. The offense has paced this year by RB Elrazor Sharp who has carried the ball 148 times for 1027 yards and 11 touchdowns. Lafayette has alternated quarterbacks Brian Dinger and Justin Albrecht this season.
Dunbar came up big both on offense and defense on a wet and muddy field to defeat Lafayette 31-7 in a key district matchup. Dunbar held a 365-107 edge in total offense and their defense held Elrazor Sharp to 19 yards on 16 carries. Dunbar used their huge line to control the line of scrimmage. Dunbar took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a nine yard run by Bobby Vyverberg. Dunbar recovered a Lafayette fumble at the Lafayette 46 in the second quarter and Josh Ellis took advantage with a 31 yard scoring strike to Monte Mayberry to make the score 14-0. Dunber pounced on a loose ball on the ensuing kickoff and Josh Ellis later scored on a one yard run to make the score 21-0 at the half.
Lafayette staged a mild comeback in the third quarter on a 17 yard TD pass from Brian Dinger to Spencer Fain to make the score 21-7. Dunbar scored on a safety and a six yard TD run by Aaron Mason in the final period to close out the scoring. Dunbar was led tonight by Josh Ellis, who completed 7 of 17 passes for 138 yards a a TD. Markell Webb carried the ball 11 times for 85 yards, Bobby Vyverberg added 78 yards on 10 carries, and Aaron Mason chipped in with 56 yards on four carries. Monte Mayberry caught two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. Rick Jones led an aggressive Bulldog defense with seven solo and two assisted tackles.
Lafayette's Brian Dinger completed 3 of 7 passes for 50 yards and a touchdown pass. Spencer Fain caught two passes for 28 yards and a score. Michael Murray led the ground game with 27 yards on six carries. Bilal El-Amin led the General defense with five solo and four assisted tackles. Spencer Fain added five solo and one assisted stop. Fain was also credited with an interception.
