South Oldham (5-5) vs. Lexington Catholic (9-1) November 7, 2003
Coach Brian Schutte's South Oldham Dragons have been led on offense this year by Sr. QB Josh Moll. Moll has completed 222 of 359 passes for 3018 yards and 17 touchdowns. WR Kevin Hull has caught 52 passes for 828 yards and six touchdowns. The Dragons defense must find a way to slow down the high octane Lexington Catholic offense which is averaging 47.3 points per game.
Coach Bob Sphire's potent Lexington Catholic offense has been led by So. QB Justin Burke who has completed 127 of 193 passes for 2046 yards and 27 touchdowns. Burke has only thrown three interceptions the entire year. Jr. Tyler Hinkel leads a deep receiving corp with 39 receptions for 850 yards and nine scores. Sr. Phillip Martin leads the ground game with 458 yards and 10 touchdowns on 72 rushing attempts. LB Kevin Lattner leads the defense with 50 solo and 30 assisted tackles.
Lexington Catholic raced out to a 37-7 halftime lead on their way to a 65-36 victory over South Oldham tonight. South Oldham took an early 7-0 lead on a 28 yard run by Bennett Gatto with 10:04 remaining in the first quarter. Lexington Catholic tied the score 7-7 two plays later on an 80 yard scoring strike from Justin Burke to Tyler Hinkel. This was the first of 37 unanswered points which allowed the Knights to take control of the game. The teams exchanged scores in the final half but South Oldham could never get closer than three touchdowns. Lexington Catholic held a 593-225 edge in total offense. The victors were penalized 10 times for 121 yards while South Oldham was flagged three times for 12 yards.
QB Justin Burke had a big night for Lexington Catholic as he completed 23 of 35 passes for 430 yards and six touchdowns. Kevin Vogelsang caught six passes for 73 yards and two scores. Tyler Hinkel had four receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Marvin Devers added three receptions for 109 yards and a score. Phillip Martin led the ground attack with 77 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. The Knight defense was led by Brandon Logan with nine solo and two assisted tackles. Dallas Osborne added four solo and one assisted tackle and was credited with 2.5 sacks for losses of 17 yards.
South Oldham's Josh Moll was 11 of 31 through the air for 96 yards and one score but was intercepted twice. Moll was pressured throughout the night, being sacked four times and had several passes dropped. Phil Swartzentruber caught four passes for 76 yards and a score. Michael Bierman lead the South Oldham defense with 10 solo and one assisted tackle.
