St. Xavier (2-0) vs. Lexington Catholic (1-0) September 5, 2003

Mike Glaser's St. Xavier Tigers have exploded out of the gate with impressive wins over Scott County (38-6) and Cincinnati Moeller (31-17).  The offense has been led by 5-11 210 pound Sr. RB K. J. Austin-Bruce.  He has the luxury of running behind an offensive line that includes 6-3 266 pound Sr. tackle Mike Secor and 6-3 321 pound Sr. tackle Carter Borho.  The Tigers have also ben impressive on the defensive side of the ball. 

Bob Sphire's Lexington Catholic Knights got off to a great start with a 49-6 victory over Prestonsburg.  So. QB Justin Burke got off to a great start and will need another big game tonight for the Knights to defeat the top-ranked Class 4A power St. Xavier. 

Lexington Catholic played well on both sides of the ball and overcame two fumbles by their punt return team to claim a 19-14 victory over St. Xavier.  Lexington Catholic held a 427-322 yard advantage on total offense and the defense came up big with a late goal line stand to seal the victory.  So. Justin Burke completed 20 of 30 passes for 323 yards and two TD passes including a 34 yard scoring strike to Cornell Burbage on fourth-and-seven with 19 seconds remaining in the first half.  LB Kevin Lattner led the Lexington Catholic defense with nine solo and five assisted tackles. 

St. Xavier was led on the ground tonight by K. J. Austin-Bruce with 125 yards on 20 carries.  QB Brian Bishop added 103 yards on 20 carries including a 59 yard scoring run that pulled the Tigers to within two points, 16-14, late in the third quarter.  DB Kyle Geftos led the Tiger defense with eight unassisted tackles.
