Coach Mark Willoughby's Tates Creek Commodores have rebounded from three early district losses to earn a playoff berth. Turner has changed the defense to a 4-3 scheme and has opened up the offense more, utilizing a run-and-shoot attack. The Indians have several options on offense this year which has allowed 6-3 220 pound Matt Bell to chiefly concentrate on defense this season and he has become a leader from his LB position.
Madison Central utilized just enough offense and a strong defense to defeat Tates Creek 14-9 to advance in the playoffs. Tates Creek took a 9-7 lead late in the third quarter on a two yard run by Quincy Taylor. Madison Central scored what proved to be the winning TD on a nine yard TD run by Thomas Estill with 7:25 remaining in the final period. Tates Creek had one last opportunity and had a first and 10 from the Madison Central 20 yard line with a minute left on the clock. The Madison Central defense came up big and forced four interceptions to snuff out the threat. Tates Creek held a 239-185 edge in total offense but lost fumbles on the Madison Central eight and 10 yard line in the first half. The Madison Central defense was able to keep star TB Quincy Taylor under wraps tonight, holding him to 70 yards on 27 carries.
