Covington Catholic (7-4) vs. Lexington Catholic (10-1) November 12, 2004
Covington Catholic, aided by two Lexington Catholic turnovers, took a 24-14 halftime lead on their way to a 37-21 victory. Covington Catholic managed to neutralize the high octane Lexington Catholic offense as they rolled up 322 yards of total offense compared to 331 yards for Lexington Catholic. The victors also capitalized on their talented kicker Michael Awadalla who booted field goals of 32, 48, and 37 yards.
Nick Buckley led the Covington Catholic ground game with 92 yards on 18 carries including TD runs of 25 and 14 yards. Drew Ellison completed eight of 14 passes for 136 yards and one TD pass. Kurt Bovard caught four passes for 26 yards and Kyle Callahan added two receptions for 74 yards including a 28 yard scoring reception. Rob Grimes led the defense with seven solo and four assisted tackles including 2.5 tackles for losses of seven yards.
Justin Burke led the Lexington Catholic ground game with 59 yards and a TD on 14 rushing attempts. Burke also completed 19 of 34 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown. Wes Caldwell was the leading receiver with six receptions for 79 yards. Brandon Logan led the defense with six solo and seven assisted tackles, while Matt Walton recorded six solo and five assisted stops. Tanner Doss added six solo and two assisted tackles.
