Franklin County (3-0) vs. Lexington Catholic (2-1) September 16, 2005
Franklin County has given up an average of 60 points per game in four consecutive losses to Lexington Catholic. However, Coach Donny Walker's Flyers have averaged 50 points per game in three consecutive victories. Jr. QB Kaelin Ammons has led the offense with 841 yards and 10 touchdowns through the air and close to 200 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. Franklin County also has two big play receivers in Colton Riggs and Shane McDonald.
Coach Bob Sphire's Lexington Catholic offense has been led by QB Justin Burke who has completed 47 of 87 passes for 785 yards with 14 touchdowns and only one interception. Burke has also carried the ball 23 times for 135 yards with a TD. Shane Israel leads the ground game with 222 yards and four touchdowns on 40 carries. Cornell Burbage has caught 16 passes for 201 yards with three touchdowns while Wes Caldwell has 15 receptions for 308 yards and nine touchdowns.
Lexington Catholic defeated Franklin County 62-28 in a game in which both teams combined for 1132 yards of total offense. Lexington Catholic rolled up 568 yards of total offense and Franklin County amassed 564 yards. Lexington Catholic recorded 28 first downs and did not punt the entire evening. Franklin County had 20 first downs but gave up a TD on a fumble recovery and the special teams gave up a TD on a long punt return. The Knights were penalized eight times for 61 yards while Franklin County was flagged six times for 28 yards.
Lexington Catholic was led tonight by Justin Burke who completed 14 of 26 passes for 257 yards with six TD passes. Burke also carried the ball 10 times for 77 yards. 5-5 157 pound So. RB Shane Israel carried the ball 23 times for 183 yards with two touchdowns. Israel also caught three passes for 41 yards with two TDs. Wes Caldwell and Pat Schwendeman each caught three passes for 68 yards with a score. Will Osborne led the Knights defense with three solo and five assisted tackles.
Franklin County was led tonight by Kaelin Ammons with 473 yards of total offense. Ammons completed 19 of 36 passes for 281 yards with two TDs and two interceptions. He also carried the ball 16 times for 192 yards with TD runs of 1 and 59 yards. Shane McDonald led the receivers with nine catches for 76 yards with a TD. Matt Stiles led the Flyers defense with seven solo and four assisted tackles. Jarrod Braden added six solo and four assisted tackles.
