Lexington Catholic (11-1) vs. Highlands (9-3) November 18, 2005
Coach Bob Sphire's high-powered Lexington Catholic offense has been led by QB Justin Burke who has thrown for 3133 yards and 56 touchdowns. The dynamic receiving duo of Cornell Burbage and Wes Caldwell have combined for 111 receptions totalling 2053 yards and 36 touchdowns. RB Shane Israel adds a ground threat with 866 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Coach Dale Mueller's Highlands Bluebirds offense has been led by QB Chase Cecil, who has passed for 1434 yards and 15 touchdowns. Ben Guidugli has 40 receptions for 984 yards with six touchdowns. RB Jordan Kramer leads the ground attack with 959 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Lexington Catholic defense came up huge tonight, pitching a shutout as the Knights defeated Highlands 17-0. The Bluebirds were held to 104 yards of total offense and only five first downs. They were zero of 10 in third down conversions. Lexington Catholic held a 7-0 lead at halftime on a one yard run by Justin Burke and a conversion kick by Brian Behr. Highlands threatened early in the third quarter as Jordan Kramer returned the kickoff 80 yards to the Lexington Catholic 15 yard line. The Bluebirds were unable to move the ball and Drew Bathiany's 37 yard field goal attempt was blocked by Winston Guy. Pat Schwendenman picked up the loose ball and ran 59 yards to the Highlands 26. When the drive stalled, Brian Behr kicked a 22 yard field goal. Lexington Catholic added a touchdown and the defense recovered three fumbles to ensure the victory.
Lexington Catholic held a 275-104 yard advantage in total offense and a 16-5 advantage in first downs. The Knights lost a fumble and were penalized seven times for 71 yards. They held a 31:19-16:41 advantage in clock possession and ran 72 offensive plays compared to 41 for Highlands. Highlands lost three fumbles and was penalized twice for 15 yards.
The Lexington Catholic ground attack was led by Shane Israel with 113 yards on 27 carries. Justin Burke added 45 yards and a TD on 15 carries. Burke completed 11 of 20 passes for 117 yards and a TD. Cornell Burbage had five receptions for 56 yards and Will Osborne caught three passes for 29 yards and a score. Pat Schwendenman led the defense with five solo and one assisted tackles including three tackles for losses totalling 21 yards.
Jordan Kramer led the Highlands ground game with 36 yards on 11 carries. Chase Cecil completed four of 12 passes for 59 yards. Ben Guidugli caught one passes for 43 yards. Ben Koester led the defense with nine solo and three assisted tackles while Greg McGraw added seven solo tackles and one assisted tackles.
