Paul L. Dunbar (4-1) vs. Tates Creek (1-3) September 23, 2005
Sean O'Brien kicked a 46 yard field goal as time expired on the clock to give Paul Dunbar a 13-10 victory over Tates Creek. This was a well-played rock 'em sock 'em type of game with both teams giving an excellent effort. Dunbar scored first on a five yard run by Will Wright but Tates Creek countered with a 49 yard TD run by Ty Sparks to make the score 7-7 at halftime. Sean O'Brien and Tates Creek's Chris Kirchner traded 24 yard field goals in the fourth quarter to knot the score at 10-10 with 3:49 left in the game. Dunbar took the ensuing kickoff and went on a 10-play scoring drive ending with O'Brien's game-winning field kick.
Dunbar held a 257-205 advantage in total offense and enjoyed an 18-8 margin in first downs. Dunbar had 154 yards rushing and 103 yards through the air. Tates Creek was zero for six on passing attempts but gained 205 yards on the ground. Dunbar was penalized 10 times for 63 yards while Tates Creek was flagged six times for 67 yards.
Will Wright led the Dunbar ground attack with 111 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. Chris Franklin completed eight of 17 passes for 103 yards. Jeremy Bruck caught four passes for 44 yards. Sean O'Brien kicked two field goals and punted three times for a 48.3 average. Mike Jones led the Bulldog defense with four solo and five assisted tackles.
Ty Sparks led the Tates Creek ground attack with 157 yards and a touchdown on 23 rushing attempts. Caleb Barnes led Tates Creek's defense four solo and 10 assisted tackles including two sacks for losses totalling 10 yards and a fumble recovery. Alan Meadors also added four solo and 10 assisted tackles.
