Boyle County (1-2) vs. Lafayette (3-0) September 8, 2006
Boyle County brings a 1-2 record to tonight's contest including a 53-10 loss to Henry Clay. However, the Rebels showed a lot of offense in last week's 35-33 loss to Danville with over 500 yards of total offense.
Lafayette is off to a 3-0 start and a victory tonight could make them 4-0 for the first time since 1981. QB Logan Bunch has completed 39 of 72 passes for 658 yards and nine touchdowns. Chris Tune and Tommy Gifford have been his favorite targets and b>Corey Layman has led the ground game. The Generals defense has been led by LB Trey Shaftner.
Lafayette's Jake Stephens kicked a 45 yard field goal with less than a second remaining on the clock to defeat Boyle County 36-33 in an offensive slugfest. The teams combined for 814 yards of total offense and Stephens kick foiled a comeback by Boyle County who trailed 25-7 in the second quarter. The Rebels actually took a 26-25 lead in the final period but Lafayette rallied to take a 33-26 lead with 6:57 left in the game. Boyle County fought back to tie the game on a Cole Stevens TD run and a Pat Barsotti conversion kick with 40 seconds left in the game. Lafayette started what proved to be the winning drive from their 36 with 39 seconds on the clock.
Logan Bunch completed four consecutive passes to move the ball to the Boyle County 28. Bunch then threw an incompletion and the stage was set for Stephens' heriocs. Boyle County called three consecutive timeouts to "ice" the kicker but Stephens came through with the game-winner.
Lafayette recorded 18 first downs and 365 yards of total offense. The Generals had one pass intercepted and were penalized twice for five yards. Boyle County had 26 first downs and 449 yards of total offense. The Rebels lost two fumbles, had three passes intercepted, and were penalized three times for 40 yards.
Corey Layman led Lafayette's ground game with 108 yards and a TD on 14 carries. Logan Bunch completed 16 of 26 passes for 223 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Chris Tune caught seven passes for 107 yards and a touchdown. Tommy Gifford also had seven receptions for 98 yards and a TD. Trey Shaftner led the Lafayette defense with eight solo and three assisted tackles. Jon Straley added eight solo and one assisted tackles.
Cole Stevens led the Boyle County ground game with 107 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. Bryce Perry completed 27 of 39 passes for 287 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Jacob Enlow caught 14 pass for 109 yards. Josh Miller added five receptions for 101 yards. Ben Slone led the Rebel defense with six solo and four assisted tackles. Josh Miller added six solo tackles including three tackles for losses of seven yards.
