Franklin County (9-2) vs. Lexington Catholic (9-1) November 10, 2006
Coach Danny Walker's Franklin County Flyers hope to avenge a 38-35 loss to Lexington Catholic in September. QB Kaelin Ammons has had a great career for the Flyers as he has passed for 9861 yards and 105 touchdowns. Ammons is also a threat on the ground as he has gained 3754 yards and 51 TDs on the ground. Ammons talent extends to the other side of the ball as a star defensive back.
Coach Bill Letton's Lexington Catholic Knights have been led by QB Tyler Hancock who has passed for 2124 yards and 27 touchdowns. Wes Caldwell and Ben Revere are dangerous threats at wide receiver and RB Shane Israel has gained more than 1000 yards on the ground.
Franklin County led 32-7 at halftime but Lexington Catholic stormed back to defeat the Flyers 44-38 in overtime. The Knights came out with a spread formation in the second half which enabled them to get the ball in the hands of their game breakers. The Knights still trailed 32-21 after three quarters but continued to claw their way back in the game in the final quarter. Lexington Catholic finally tied the game at 38-38 on a 20 yard field goal by Logan Payne with 4:24 left in regulation.
Neither team could score again in the final minutes of regulation and the game went to overtime. Franklin County got the ball first but was stopped after four straight running plays on the one yard line. Lexington Catholic took over and gave the ball to Shane Israel three straight times with Israel scoring scoring the winning touchdown on a three yard run.
Lexington Catholic recorded 14 first downs and 393 yards of total offense. The Knights had one pass intercepted and were penalized 11 times for 61 yards. Franklin County had 20 first downs and 519 yards of total offense. The Flyers had one pass intercepted and were penalized four times for 34 yards.
Tyler Hancock completed 20 of 33 passes for 313 yards with four touchdowns. Wes Caldwell had eight receptions for 64 yards. Ben Revere added six receptions for 203 yards and four touchdowns. Shane Israel led the gound game with 63 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Jacob Locknane led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles. Luke Schuler added six solo and one assisted tackles and Nick Vicini recorded six solo tackles.
Franklin County's Kaelin Ammons completed 19 of 43 passes for 377 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. Deron Hicks caught eight passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Terry Metcalf added four receptions for 48 yards. Ammons also carried the ball 27 times for 124 yards and a touchdown. Patrick Brown led the defense with eight solo and one assisted tackles. Larry Taylor added six solo tackles.
