Henry Clay (11-1) vs. Clark County (8-4) November 17, 2006
Coach Sam Simpson's Henry Clay Blue Devils have been very efficient on offense this season averaging almost 42 points per game and over 400 yards per game.
QB Ryan Phillippi has led the aerial attack with 2316 yards and 30 touchdowns. He has an excellent trio of receivers in Clark Jeter, Aaron Boyd, and Chase Minnifield. RB Dontey Gay has gained 932 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
Coach Paul Columbia's Clark County Cardinals have an excellent ground game led by RB Clint Green who has run for 1230 yards and 24 touchdowns QB Dougie Mason has thrown for over 1000 yards and gained 300 yards on the ground. Robelle Rogers is a dual threat both running and catching the ball. The Cardinal defense has been led by Michael Clark (DB), Clay Martin (LB), and Tristan Jones (DE).
Henry Clay's Dontey Gay scored on two short TD runs to lead the Blue Devils to a 21-7 victory over Clark County. The key sequence of plays occurred in the second quarter with the score tied 7-7. Henry Clay's Chase Minnifield punted 37 yards to the Clark County one yard line. Two plays later Minnifield intercepted a Mason pass on the Clark County 18. Clark County was assessed a face mask penalty moving the ball to the nine yard line. Gay later scored on a three yard run, giving the Blue Devils a lead they would not relinquish. Chase Minnifield later added an insurance TD.
Henry Clay recorded 18 first downs and 240 yards of total offense. The Blue Devils were penalized three times for 34 yards. Clark County had 12 first downs and 130 yards of total offense. The Cardinals had a pass intercepted and were penalized eight times for 45 yards.
Dontey Gay led the Henry Clay ground game with 55 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Ryan Phillippi completed nine of 11 passes for 58 yards. Chase Minnifield completed six of six passes for 59 yards. Aaron Boyd and Clark Jeter each had four receptions for 37 and 21 yards respectively. Stephon Burton led the Blue Devil defense with two solo and eight assisted tackles. Grant Devinney added one solo and 10 assisted tackles.
Clint Greene led the Clark County ground game with 80 yards and one TD on 19 carries. Dougie Mason completed seven of 16 passes for 25 yards with one interception. Robelle Rogers had five receptions for 12 yards. Brand. Mitchell led the Cardinal defense with seven solo and two assisted tackles. Robelle Rogers added five solo and four assisted tackles. Adam Craig recorded four solo and six assisted tackles.
