Lafayette (6-0) vs. Tates Creek (5-0) September 29, 2006

Lafayette has been led this season by QB Logan Bunch, who has who has passed for 16 touchdowns.  His favorite receivers so far have been Chris Tune and Tommy Gifford, who have combined for 11 touchdowns.  The Generals defense this year has been led by Fred Pennington and Trey Shaftner.

Tates Creek's prolific ground game has been led by Ty Sparks, who has gained 981 yards and ran for 11 touchdowns.  The Commodores have held their opponents to under 100 passing yards a game.  Joe Conlon and Eric Gwinn have paced the defense this season.

Lafayette defeated Tates Creek 27-17 tonight to remain undefeated and hand Tates Creek their first loss of the season.  Tates Creek led 6-0 after the first quarter but Lafayette rallied for two TDs in the second quarter to take a 14-6 halftime lead.  Lafayette took control fo the game early in the third quarter as Tommy Gifford returned the second half kickoff 95 yards to the Tates Creek three yard line.  Two plays later Corey Layman scored on a one yard run and Jake Stephens kicked the extra point to give Lafayette a 21-6 lead.

Lafayette recorded 14 first downs and 298 yards of total offense.  The Generals were penalized nine times for 70 yards.  Tates Creek had 19 first downs and 293 yards of total offense.  The Commodores held a 26:21-18:55 advantage in clock possession.

Tyler Stephenson led the Lafayette ground game with 55 yards and a TD on nine carries.  Corey Layman carried the ball 15 times for 52 yards and two touchdowns.  Logan Bunch completed 12 of 16 passes for 165 yards and a TD.  Chris McAskill caught three passes for 81 yards and a touchdown.  Chris Tune also caught three passes for 48 yards.  Tommy Gifford had a punt return of 33 yards and a kickoff return of 95 yards.  Eric Shaw Jr. led the Lafayette defense with nine solo and two assisted tackles.  Trey Shaftner added five solo and three assisted tackles.

Ty Sparks led the Tates Creek ground game with 173 yards and a TD on 28 carries.  Marcus Kader carried the ball 16 times for 54 yards.  Hayden Cardiff completed three of eight passes for 66 yards and a TD.  Eric Gwinn had a 45 yard scoring reception.  Eric Gwinn led the Commodore defense with five solo and one assisted tackles.  Derrick Brown and Robert Knowles each recorded four solo and one assisted tackles.
