Paul Dunbar (0-6) vs. Lafayette (7-0) October 6, 2006
Dunbar has had problems putting points on the scoreboard as they have only scored six TDs in six games. The Bulldogs defense has been anchored by Nick Edelstein and Zach Warmouth. Dunbar has history on their side as they have beaten Lafayette 12 out of the last 13 games.
QB Logan Bunch has led Lafayette's offense as he has completed 94 of 159 passes for 1443 yards and 17 touchdowns. Chris Tune has caught 35 passes for 551 yards and seven touchdowns. The Generals have several other talented receivers including Tommy Gifford and Chris McAskill.
Logan Bunch and Tyler Stephenson hooked up on two long-range touchdowns to allow Lafayette to escape with a 35-24 decision over Paul Dunbar. Dunbar took a 24-21 lead with 9:22 to go in the game on a Colby Haney one yard run and a two point conversion pass from Haney to Matt Metts. Lafayette faced a fourth-and-six from their own 38 when Logan Bunch hooked up with Tyler Stephenson on a 62 yard catch-and-run TD play. Jake Stephens kicked the extra point to give Lafayette a 28-24 lead with 6:43 left on the clock.
Dunbar was forced to punt on their next possession and Lafayette took over on their own 41 yard line. The Generals were facing a third-and-seventeen on their own 34 when Bunch and Stephenson hooked up again, this time for a 66 yard TD. Stephens again converted to give Lafayette their final victory margin 35-24.
Lafayette recorded 18 first downs and 493 yards of total offense. The Generals were penalized 15 times for 119 yards. Dunbar had 15 first downs and 310 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs had a pass intercepted and were penalized 10 times for 68 yards.
Corey Layman led Lafayette's ground game with 50 yards and a TD on 16 carries. Tyler Stephenson added 42 yards on nine carries. Logan Bunch completed 22 of 31 passes for 371 yards and three touchdowns. Chris McAskill caught five passes for 67 yards. Chris Tune and Tommy Gifford each had four receptions for 70 and 61 yards respectively. Tyler Stephenson had two receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Green led the Lafayette defense with one solo and nine assisted tackles. Trey Shaftner added two solo and three assisted tackles.
Steven Willis led Dunbar's ground game with 94 yards on 10 carries. Colby Haney carried the ball 17 times for 84 yards and three touchdowns. Jerrell Greene added 66 yards on 10 carries. Haney completed two of five passes for 31 yards with an interception. Matt Metts caught two passes for 31 yards. Nick Edelstein led the Bulldog defense with three solo and six assisted tackles. Martaveous Mays added three solo and four assisted tackles and Zach Warmouth recorded two solo and five assisted tackles.
