Introduction

Four football programs will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in the 59th Annual Recreation Bowl.

Game One will pit West Jessamine against Madison Central.  Coach Mark Stevens takes over as head coach of the West Jessamine Colts.  The Colts finished 4-7 last season and lost a lot of experience on the offensive side.  The Colts return several players that helped set a West Jessamine record for fewest points allowed in a season.

Coach Kenny Turner's Madison Central Indians finished 7-4 last season and return good lines on both sides of the ball.  The Indians graduated a lot of skill position players but they have some skilled young players ready to step up.  They also return Jr. QB Chaz Hope who passed for over 1300 yards and 14 TDs last season.

Game Two will match 4A schools Lafayette against Mason County.  Coach Mike Harmon's Lafayette Generals finished 6-5 last season and appear poised for a good season this year.  The Generals appear to be talented and deep on both sides of the ball.  6-3 215 pound Jr. QB Logan Bunch should have several capable targets including Chris Tune, Chris McAskill, and Tommy Gifford.  The Generals have a capable stable of backs and a solid offensive line.  The defense should be strong, led by 6-4 218 pound Sr. LB Trey Shaftner, 5-9 190 pound Sr. DB Jon Straley, and 277 pound Jr. DL Toranio Oldham, and a transfer from Apollo 6-0 222 pound Jr. LB Matt Green.  The Generals also have a potent weapon in kicker Jake Stephens, an excellent field goal kicker who also routinely kicks off into the end zone.

Coach David Buchanan's Mason County Royals finished 7-4 last season and should have another good campaign.  Russ Middleton and Richie Cox will probably both get time at QB this season as they replace graduated Ty Sargent.  The receiving corps should be led by Darius Miller, Tony Browning, and Nathan Stahl.  The ground game should be led by Chase Crawford.

Game One

West Jessamine (0-0) vs. Madison Central (0-0)

Madison Central set a Recreation Bowl scoring record with a 70-0 rout of West Jessamine.  Madison Central graduated a trio of game-breakers last season but coach Kenny Turner unleashed a new trio last night that helped the Indians roll up 548 yards on offense.  The Indians dialed "long distance" several times as their 10 touchdowns included scoring plays of 89, 51, 76, 49, and 61 yards.  Madison Central averaged 17.0 yards per carry on the ground.

Madison Central held a 548-121 advantage on total offense.  West Jessamine held a 31:05-16:55 advantage in clock possession time, but the Colts only averaged 2.5 yards per offensive play and were held to a net 5 yards on 30 rushing attempts.  West Jessamine fumbled the ball six times, losing possession twice and had one pass intercepted.
