Scott County (7-2) vs. Lafayette (9-0) October 27, 2006

Scott County enters the game with a 4-1 district mark and relies on a potent ground game. Keith Smith has gained 795 yards and 15 touchdowns and Malcolm Clay added 444 yards and six touchdowns. Scott County's two losses this season have come at the hands of Lexington Catholic and Henry Clay.
Lafayette is going for the number one district seed and their first undefeated season since 1963. Logan Bunch has completed 132 of 214 passes for 2015 yards and 22 touchdowns. The Generals excellent duo of receivers Chris Tune and Tommy Gifford have combined for 73 receptions for 1252 yards and 13 TDs. Lafayette's ground game has been led by Corey Layman and Tyler Stephenson.
Corey Layman scored on a one yard run in overtime to give Lafayette a 23-17 victory over Scott County and finish undefeated at 10-0 in the regular season. Scott County got the first opportunity in overtime but was stopped on three straight plays. Jesse Hawkins missed a 29 yard field goal attempt on the next play. Lafayette then got their opportunity from the 10 yard line. Chris Tune ran nine yards to the one on first down, setting up Layman's winning TD run.
The story tonight was turnovers as Lafayette scored 17 points off three Scott County turnovers. However, the potent Scott County running game allowed the Cardinals to tie the score at 17-17 on a 60 yard TD run by Keith Smith and a conversion kick by Jesse Hawkins. Scott County got the ball back after Lafayette's Jake Stephens missed a 34 yard field goal attempt. Scott County had a chance to win in regulation but Hawkins' 37 yard field goal attempt in the closing seconds was wide.
Lafayette recorded 14 first downs and 257 yards of total offense. The Generals didn't suffer any turnovers and were penalized four times for 30 yards. Scott County had 20 first downs and 360 yards of total offense. Scott County ran 63 offensive plays compared to 54 for Lafayette. The Cardinals fumbled the ball four times and lost possession of three of the fumbles.
Corey Layman led the Lafayette ground game with 77 yards and a TD on 13 carries. Tyler Stephenson carried the ball 12 times for 52 yards. Chris Tune added 37 yards and two touchdowns on three carries. Logan Bunch completed 22 of 31 passes for 371 yards and three touchdowns. Logan Bunch completed 10 of 20 passes for 84 yards. Chris Tune caught three passes for 29 yards. Eric Shaw Jr. led the Lafayette defense with five solo and seven assisted tackles. Matt Green added four solo and eight assisted tackles. Tyler Stephenson recorded four solo and five assisted tackles.
Keith Smith led the Scott County ground game with 201 yards and a TD on 24 carries. Jimmie Warren carried the ball 16 times for 68 yards. Anthony Sandoval added 63 yards on eight carries. Cody Andrews completed two of three passes for 16 yards. Sam Payne led the Scott County defense with four solo and four assisted tackles. Jason Rusch added four solo and three assisted tackles and Brandon Mobley recorded four solo and two assisted tackles.
