Coach Rick Thompson's Boone County Rebels finished 6-5 last season and return a lot of offensive punch from last year's squad. QB Shawn Bogle completed 64 of 134 passes for 942 yards. Cory Farris led the ground game with 1539 yards and 15 TDs on 225 carries. WR Mercier Doucette caught 25 passes for 384 yards and seven TDs.
Coach Jim McKee's Scott County Cardinals finished 7-4 last season and should be very good on offense again this season. Coach McKee has some excellent backs returning including Anthony Sandoval, Logan Travis, and Brandon Lawson. 5-10 250 pound Sr. center Joey Valdez will anchor the offensive line. 5-10 200 pound Sr. LB Sam Payne will lead the Cardinal defense.
Scott County led 21-6 entering the final quarter and withstood a late rally to defeat Boone County 28-20. Mercier Doucette caught a 16 yard pass from Shawn Bogle to pull Boone County within one point, 21-20, with 4:07 remaining on the clock. Boone County attempted a two point conversion but the pass fell incomplete. Scott County scored an insurance touchdown on an 18 yard run by Brandon Lawson and the conversion kick with 57 seconds remaining in the game.
Scott County recorded 12 first downs and 362 yards of total offense. The Cardinals were penalized six times for 51 yards and had one pass intercepted. Boone County had 18 first downs and 372 yards of total offense. The Rebels were only penalized twice for six yards, lost a fumble, and had two passes intercepted.
Jose Smith led the Scott County ground game with 88 yards on 14 carries. Anthony Sandoval carried the ball eight times for 87 yards and two TDs. Logan Travis added 77 yards on five carries. Brandon Lawson recorded 34 yards and a TD on seven carries. Lawson completed two of seven passes for 93 yards with a TD and one interception. Eric Sanders caught two passes for 93 yards and a TD. Brandon Lawson led the Cardinal defense with eight solo and three assisted tackles. Sam Payne added six solo and seven assisted tackles.
Cory Farris led Boone County's ground attack with 189 yards and a TD on 20 carries. Shawn Bogle completed 15 of 28 passes for 146 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Mercier Doucette caught 10 passes for 116 yards and a TD. Greg Turner led the Rebel defense with two solo and seven assisted tackles. Sam Brown added three solo and two assisted tackles with 2.5 tackles being QB sacks for losses totalling 23 yards.
