Shelby County trailed 29-7 after the first quarter but rallied to defeat Scott County 60-56 in an offensive slugfest. Scott County held a 56-39 lead late in the third quarter but Shelby County scored with 1:29 left in the quarter to cut the deficit to 56-47 entering the final quarter. The Rockets outscored Scott County 13-0 in the final period to earn the victory. Shelby County's Alex Matthews tied a state record by throwing nine touchdown passes. Matthews performance overshadowed a 300 yard rushing game by Scott County's Jose Smith. The two teams combined for a staggering 1039 yards of offense.
Shelby County recorded 34 first downs and 637 yards of total offense. The Rockets were penalized 10 times for 70 yards and lost two fumbles. Scott County had 19 first downs and 402 yards of total offense. The Cardinals were penalized 14 times for 152 yards and had one pass intercepted.
Otheius Beach led the Shelby County ground game with 103 yards on 15 carries. Alex Matthews completed 30 of 52 passes for 497 yards and nine touchdowns. Matthews TD strikes came on 62, 13, 6, 6, 6, 20, 68, 30, and 16 yards. Jordan Burk caught 11 passes for 221 yards and six touchdowns. Coty Minnis added seven receptions for 116 yards and a TD. Brandon Manica led the defense with five solo and three assisted tackles. Joe Virgilio added four solo and five assisted tackles.
Jose Smith led Scott County's ground game with 300 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries. Brandon Lawson carried the ball 16 times for 97 yards and three TDs. Lawson completed one of eight passes for three yards with one interception. Sam Payne led the Cardinal defense with eight solo and three assisted tackles. Lawson added five solo and two assisted tackles.
