Class A Championship

 

Beechwood (12-2)  vs.  Lexington Christian Academy (11-3) December 7, 2007

 

Coach Noel Rash’s Beechwood Tigers gained 3594 yards on the ground and 1597 yards through the air.  They averaged 37.9 ppg on offense and gave up 11.9 ppg.  6-2 206 pound Jr. RB Nieco Teipel led the ground game with 1183 yards and 17 touchdowns on 171 carries.  6-1 209 pound Sr. RB Tommy Bankemper carried the ball 173 times for 865 yards and 20 touchdowns.  6-1 165 pound Sr. QB Cody Elliott completed 95 of 189 passes for 1530 yards and 16 touchdowns with eight interceptions.  6-3 208 pound Jr. WR Joe Daniels caught 24 passes for 373 yards and five touchdowns.  5-9 145 pound So. Ryan Amelung added 22 receptions for 472 yards and four touchdowns.

 

Coach Paul Rains’ Lexington Christian Academy Eagles gained 2156 yards on the ground and 2817 yards through the air.  They averaged 40.6 ppg on offense and gave up 24.4 ppg.  5-8 220 pound So. FB Dominique Hayden led the ground game with 1307 yards and 30 touchdowns on 196 carries.  6-2 175 pound So. QB Lucas Witt carried the ball 99 times for 716 yards and 11 touchdowns.  Witt completed 204 of 363 passes for 2650 yards and 27 touchdowns with nine interceptions.  6-1 160 pound So. WR Branden Burdette caught 48 passes for 859 yards and 11 touchdowns.  5-6 150 pound Jr. SE Ben Hartley added 45 receptions for 504 yards and four touchdowns.  5-9 170 pound Sr. LB Clay White led the defense with 84 tackles.  Hayden added 66.5 tackles and 5-7 130 pound So. CB Drew Walls recorded 10 interceptions.

 

Beechwood got two long TD returns on special teams and the defense recorded key interceptions to allow Beechwood to capture the championship by a score of 38-35.  Lexington Christian trailed 38-35 but had the ball on the Beechwood two yard line with 4:10 left in the game.  However on fourth and goal Lucas Witt’s pass was intercepted in the endzone by Nieco Teipel.  The Eagles had one more chance but once again the drive was stopped by an interception.

 

Beechwood had 219 yards of total offense, recorded 11 first downs, and were penalized seven times for 43 yards.  The Tigers lost three fumbles and had two passes intercepted.  Lexington Christian had 330 yards of total offense, recorded 17 first downs, and were penalized eight times for 61 yards.  The Eagles had three passes intercepted.  Beechwood had a big advantage in kick return yardage and returned both a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown.

 

Beechwood’s ground game was led by Tommy Bankemper who carried the ball 18 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns.  Cody Elliott completed four of 12 passes for 108 yards with two interceptions.  Ryan Amelung scored on a 99 yard kickoff return and a 62 yard punt return.  Alex Morehead led the defense with six solo and seven assisted tackles.  Ryan Amelung added seven solo and three assisted tackles.  Drew Davis recorded six solo and five assisted tackles with 4.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 17 yards.

 

Dominique Hayden led the Lexington Christian ground game with 49 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.  Lucas Witt completed 27 of 48 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.  Branden Burdette caught nine passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.  Matt Ledford and Ben Hartley each caught five passes for 60 and 44 yards respectively.  Evan Barnett led the defense with eight solo and two assisted tackles and also intercepted a pass.  Kyle Gaffney added five solo and two assisted tackles.

Fort Campbell (12-2)  vs.  Newport Central Catholic (13-1) December 8, 2007

 

Coach Shawn Berner’s Fort Campbell Falcons gained 3546 yards on the ground and 1788 yards through the air.  They averaged 39.8 ppg on offense and gave up 15.3 ppg.  5-10 185 pound So. RB Troy Turner led the ground game with 1579 yards and 21 touchdowns on 207 carries.  6-1 185 pound Sr. QB CJ Croft completed 132 of 251 passes for 1771 yards and 16 touchdowns with nine interceptions.  6-2 165 pound Sr. WR Lorenzo Hines caught 38 passes for 540 yards and four touchdowns.  5-10 185 pound So. WR Chris Allen added 36 receptions for three touchdowns.  6-2 215 pound Jr. LB Josh McWherter led the defense with 118 solo and 74 assisted tackles.  6-2 220 pound Jr. LB Josh Carter added 70 solo and 82 assisted tackles.

 

Coach Bob Schneider’s Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds gained 2132 yards on the ground and 2241 yards through the air.  They averaged 32.8 ppg and gave up 9.4 ppg.  5-10 175 pound Jr. RB Mark Kelly led the ground attack with 1260 yards and 19 touchdowns on 241 carries.  6-1 160 pound Jr. QB Rob Kues carried the ball 169 times for 707 yards and 10 touchdowns.  Kues completed 154 of 293 passes for 2205 yards and 21 touchdowns with 16 interceptions.  6-0 165 pound Sr. WR Brian Wrobleski caught 42 passes for 740 yards and five touchdowns.  5-11 165 pound Sr. WR Matt Ritter and 6-3 185 pound Sr. WR Burke Beiting added 39 and 35 receptions respectively with each recording six touchdowns.  6-0 203 pound Sr. LB Nick Franzen led the defense with 89 solo and 40 assisted tackles.  6-1 195 pound Sr. LB John Pabst added 68 solo and 39 assisted tackles.

 

Fort Campbell scored 14 unanswered points in the final quarter to defeat Newport Central Catholic 21-7.  Fort Campbell had 406 yards of total offense, recorded 21 first downs, and was penalized five times for 33 yards.  Newport Central Catholic had 255 yards of total offense, recorded 15 first downs, and was penalized eight times for 39 yards.  The Thoroughbreds lost a fumble and had one pass intercepted.

 

Dexter Durrante led the Fort Campbell ground game with 120 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.  Troy Turner carried the ball 17 times for 109 yards.  CJ Croft completed 15 of 28 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns.  Chris Allen caught eight passes for 78 yards and a touchdown.  Lorenzo Hines added three receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown.  Jesse Naputi led the defense with six solo and four assisted tackles.  Dexter Durrante added six solo and three assisted tackles.

 

Rob Kues led Newport Central’s ground game with 58 yards on 15 carries.  Kues completed 16 of 28 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Matt Ritter caught seven passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.  Brian Wrobleski added six receptions for 30 yards.  Patrick Collopy led the defense with four solo and eight assisted tackles.  Mike McGarr added four solo and seven assisted tackles.  John Pabst recorded four solo and six assisted tackles.

Coach Tyrran Scroggins’ Central Yellowjackets gained 2293 yards on the ground and 1704 yards through the air.  They averaged 29.4 ppg and gave up 20.6 ppg.  5-10 160 pound Sr. RB Darrell Taylor led the ground game with 1213 yards and 10 touchdowns on 259 carries.  6-3 Sr. QB Leland Banks completed 102 of 185 passes for 1704 yards and 16 touchdowns with seven interceptions.  5-10 170 pound Sr. WR Tarrell Holstein caught 37 passes for 724 yards and 10 touchdowns.  6-4 204 pound So. LB Tim Patterson led the defense with 89 solo and 36 assisted tackles.  6-0 270 pound Jr. DL Mister Cobble added 75 solo and 45 assisted tackles.  6-4 208 pound Jr. LB Ridge Wilson recorded 53 solo and 30 assisted tackles.

 

Coach Philip Haywood’s Belfry Pirates gained 4561 yards on the ground and 564 yards through the air.  They averaged 43.6 ppg and gave up 12.5 ppg.  6-2 224 pound Sr. RB Dustin May led the ground attack with 1634 yards and 26 touchdowns on 172 carries.  Jr. RB Ivan Lee carried the ball 111 times for 1287 yards and 16 touchdowns.  6-2 161 pound Jr. QB Andrew Elkins completed 39 of 77 passes for 565 yards and six touchdowns with one interception.  5-10 184 pound Jr. Charlie Dotson led the defense with 38 solo and 98 assisted tackles.  6-1 175 pound Sr. Phillip Hickman added 33 solo and 81 assisted tackles.

 

Central utilized the big play capabilities of Darrell Taylor to defeat previously undefeated Belfry 27-17.  Taylor scored on TD runs of 48 and 45 yards and a pass interception return of 76 yards.

 

Central had 238 yards of total offense, recorded 10 first downs, and was penalized twice for 10 yards.  The Yellowjackets lost two fumbles and had three passes intercepted.  Belfry gained 282 yards of total offense, recorded 15 first downs, and was penalized six times for 27 yards.

 

Darrell Taylor led Central’s ground game with 165 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.  Leland Banks completed five of 12 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions.  Tarrell Holstein caught three passes for 59 yards.  Tim Patterson led the defense with five solo and five assisted tackles.  Terryl Wadlington added six solo and two assisted tackles with three of the tackles resulting in losses totaling seven yards.  Wadlington also recovered a fumble.

 

Dustin May led the Belfry ground game with 128 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.  Andrew Elkins completed six of 11 passes for 65 yards with an interception.  Dustin May caught two passes for 33 yards.  Thomas Varney led the defense with six solo tackles and an interception..  Phillip Hickman added two solo tackles and five assisted tackles with 2.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 13 yards.  Ryan Preston had two pass interceptions.

Coach Jack Haskins’ Lone Oak Purple Flash gained 695 yards on the ground and 5710 yards through the air.  They averaged 53.2 ppg and gave up 14.2 ppg.  6-3 195 pound Sr. QB Corey Robinson completed 362 of 483 passes for 5631 yards and 90 touchdowns with four interceptions.  6-3 165 pound Jr. WR Jamarielle Brown caught 96 passes for 1865 yards and 27 touchdowns.  6-0 195 pound Sr. RB Corey Hobbs added 74 receptions for 841 yards and 17 touchdowns.  5-8 165 pound Sr. RB Travis Hickman recorded 56 receptions for 936 yards and 16 touchdowns.

 

Coach Bill Letton’s Lexington Catholic Knights gained 2869 yards on the ground and 2515 yards through the air.  They averaged 37.6 ppg and gave up 11.9 ppg.  5-7 185 pound Sr. RB Shane Israel led the ground game with 1287 yards and 15 touchdowns on 172 carries.  5-5 160 pound So. RB Greg Raglin carried the ball 97 times for 751 yards and seven touchdowns.  5-11 180 pound So. QB Nic Ward completed 202 of 325 passes for 2334 yards and 22 touchdowns with 15 interceptions.  6-2 195 pound Sr.WR Tyler Corvin caught 37 passes for 629 yards and 11 touchdowns.  6-4 210 pound Sr. LB Nick Vicini led the defense with 90 tackles.  6-2 195 pound Sr. SS Winston Guy added 71 tackles.

 

Lexington Catholic’s speedy aggressive defenders recorded five quarterback sacks and held Lone Oak to minus 33 yards rushing in a 49-7 victory.  Lexington Catholic gained 463 yards on offense, recorded 22 first downs, and were penalized six times for 54 yards.  The Knights had one pass intercepted.  Lone Oak gained 208 yards on offense, recorded 11 first downs, and was penalized twice for 10 yards.

 

Shane Israel led the Lexington Catholic ground game with 194 yards and four touchdowns on 27 carries.  Nic Ward completed 14 of 18 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Devon Williams caught four passes for 37 yards.  Nick Vicini led the defense with four solo and one assisted tackles.  Adam Sandefer added four solo tackles.  Winston Guy recorded three solo and one assisted tackles with 3.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 17 yards.

 

Lone Oak’s Corey Robinson completed 21 of 37 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown.  Jamarielle Brown caught 10 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.  Austin Clark led the defense with five solo and five assisted tackles.  Daniel Edwards added five solo and three assisted tackles.

Coach Kevin Wallace’s Bowling Green Purples gained 3290 yards on the ground and 2906 yards through the air.  They averaged 48.8 ppg and gave up 11.3 ppg.  5-10 178 pound Jr. RB Tevin Barksdale led the ground game with 1008 yards and 17 touchdowns on 117 carries.  6-1 178 pound Sr. QB Trent Steelman carried the ball 116 times for 895 yards and 14 touchdowns.  6-0 195 pound Sr. RB Jared Carpenter added 544 yards and 14 touchdowns on 71 carries.  Steelman completed 172 of 260 passes for 2807 yards and 24 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.  6-5 190 pound Sr. WR DL Moore caught 60 passes for 1317 yards and 13 touchdowns.  6-5 230 pound Sr. TE Ryan Wallace added 42 receptions for 601 yards and seven touchdowns.  5-9 175 pound Sr. LB Matt VanMeter recorded 64 solo and 36 assisted tackles.  Carpenter added 69 solo and 30 assisted tackles from his LB position.

 

Coach Dale Mueller’s Highlands Bluebirds gained 3824 yards on the ground and 1521 yards through the air.  They averaged 41.6 ppg and gave up 10.4 ppg.  6-0 192 pound Jr. RB Josh Conner led the ground game with 1588 yards and 26 touchdowns on 189 carries.  6-2 191 pound Sr. QB Clay Cecil carried the ball 133 times for 827 yards and 11 touchdowns.  6-1 211 pound Sr. RB Zach Hurtt recorded 812 yards and 15 touchdowns on 85 carries.  Cecil completed 59 of 100 passes for 983 yards and eight touchdowns with three interceptions.  Conner caught 20 passes for 260 yards and five touchdowns.

 

Highlands held a 229-34 advantage in rushing yardage and intercepted three passes in a 28-7 victory over Bowling Green.  Highlands gained 322 yards, recorded 19 first downs, and was penalized seven times for 53 yards.  Bowling Green gained 182 yards, recorded 10 first downs, and were penalized nine times for 80 yards.  The Purples had three passes intercepted.

 

Josh Conner led the Highlands ground game with 131 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.  Clay Cecil carried the ball 26 times for 88 yards and one touchdown.  Cecil completed four of six passes for 93 yards and one touchdown.  Terry O’Brien caught two passes for 57 yards and a touchdown.  Joe Fitzgerald led the defense with five solo and one assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards.

Tevin Barksdale led the Bowling Green ground game with 17 yards on six carries.  Trent Steelman completed 16 of 25 passes for 148 yards with three interceptions.  Ryan Wallace caught six passes for 68 yards.  Corbin Smith led the defense with seven solo and six assisted tackles.  Jared Carpenter recorded seven solo and four assisted tackles.

Saint Xavier (14-0)  vs.  Louisville Trinity (12-2) December 8, 2007

 

Coach Mike Glaser’s St. Xavier Tigers gained 3674 yards on the ground and 1425 yards through the air.  They averaged 40.1 ppg  and gave up 6.9 ppg.  5-10 197 pound Jr. RB Rolandan Finch led the ground game with 1418 yards and 15 touchdowns on 147 carries.  6-0 200 pound Sr. QB Ben Zoeller carried the ball 77 times for 617 yards and nine touchdowns.  5-10 191 pound Sr. RB Joe Montano added 457 yards and 11 touchdowns on 84 carries.  Zoeller completed 64 of 107 passes for 960 yards and eight touchdowns with one interception.  5-9 175 pound Sr. WR Will Simmons caught 31 passes for 610 yards and six touchdowns.  6-1 209 pound Sr. LB Nate Combs led the defense with 95 tackles.  5-9 219 pound Sr. DE James Carpenter and 5-11 185 pound Jr. DB Darron Hall added 57 and 53 tackles respectively.

 

Coach Bob Beatty’s Trinity Shamrocks gained 2381 yards on the ground and 3799 yards through the air.  They averaged 46.9 ppg and gave up 15.6 ppg.  The Trinity ground game was led by 5-5 150 pound Jr. RB Tim Phillips with 1696 yards and 27 touchdowns on 210 carries.  5-11 170 pound Sr. QB William Stein completed 236 of 327 passes for 3497 yards and 52 touchdowns with five interceptions.  6-0 175 pound Sr. WR Nathan Dutton caught 92 passes for 1386 yards and 20 touchdowns.  6-0 175 pound Sr. WR Alex Dutton added 54 receptions for 878 yards and 13 touchdowns.  5-10 160 pound Jr. WR Scott Radcliff recorded 32 receptions for 617 yards and 10 touchdowns.  6-0 221 pound Jr. LB Jordan Whiting led the defense with 93 solo and 12 assisted tackles.  6-0 210 pound Sr. LB Wes Weitlauf added 70 solo and 10 assisted tackles.

 

Wes Weitlauf scored on a one yard run in overtime to give Trinity a 34-28 victory over St. Xavier.  Trinity forced the overtime with a touchdown and conversion in the final minute of regulation.  St. Xavier got the ball first in overtime but on the second play Ben Zoeller’s pass was intercepted by Donovan Sims in the endzone.  Trinity’s drive started on the St. Xavier 10 yard line.  On first and goal Tim Phillips ran nine yards to the one yard line.  On second and goal from the one yard line Wes Weitlauf scored the deciding touchdown.

 

Trinity gained 360 yards, recorded 23 first downs, and was penalized three times for 25 yards.  The Shamrocks lost one fumble and had two passes intercepted.  St. Xavier gained 387 yards, recorded 24 first downs, and was penalized five times for 27 yards.  The Tigers fumbled six times but only lost possession once.  The Tigers also had two passes intercepted.

 

Tim Phillips led Trinity’s ground game with 167 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.  William Stein completed 18 of 32 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.  Nathan Dutton caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.  Alex Dutton and Tim Phillips each caught four passes for 38 and 36 yards respectively.  Wes Weitlauf led the defense with seven solo and two assisted tackles.  N. VanWallaghen added seven solo and one assisted tackles.  Sam Robey recorded seven solo and one assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 12 yards.

 

Rolandan Finch led the St. Xavier ground game with 139 yards on 23 carries.  Ben Zoeller added 56 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.  Zoeller completed 10 of 17 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Walter Simmons caught five passes for 61 yards.  Nathan Combs led the defense with seven solo tackles.
