Coach Oliver Lucas' Bryan Station Defenders improved to 4-7 last season and appear poised to continue the trend this season. The Defenders have a huge offensive line anchored by 6-5 320 pound Chase Blackburn, 6-1 280 pound Tae Green, 6-2 305 pound Jesseray Childrey, and 6-5 265 pound Darrian Miller. They also have a strong defensive line including 6-3 270 pound Roy Philon, 6-2 270 pound Isaiah Davis, Jesseray Childrey, and 6-3 320 pound Nick Cooper. The running game should be led by 5-7 175 pound RB Patrick Cornett. They expect quality play from WRs Muhammad Saifullah and Chaz Mitchell. The Defenders have two sophs vying for the QB job in Michael Winkler and Brady Boling.
Paul Dunbar finished 4-8 last season and Jason Howell takes over as head coach this season. Coach Howell expects to open up the offense more this season and will move Marquis Clay from QB to WR to take advantage of his speed. WR Martaveous Mays is also expected to have a big season. Steven Willis is a very dependable FB. The offensive line should be anchored by 6-5 250 pound Jared Yonts and 6-6 283 pound Eric Ayers. The Bulldogs should be solid on defense as they return seven veterans.
Bryan Station broke a 21 game losing streek against Lexington schools with a convincing 45-14 victory over Paul Dunbar. The referees were extremely busy tonight as both teams combined for 19 penalties and 391 yards.
Bryan Station recorded 18 first downs and 414 yards of total offense. The Defenders were penalized 11 times for 259 yards and lost two fumbles. Paul Dunbar recorded 15 first downs and 224 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs were penalized eight times for 132 yards.
