Williamsburg vs. Mayfield

Mayfield claimed the Class 1A Championship with a 28-27 overtime victory over Williamsburg.  Williamsburg scored first in overtime but missed the conversion kick.  Mayfield took possession and scored and kicked the extra point to earn the victory.  Coach Joe Morris’ Mayfield squad recorded 10 first downs and 187 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized three times for 23 yards and had one pass intercepted.  Coach Jerry Herron’s Williamsburg team recorded 17 first downs and 372 yards of total offense.  The Yellow Jackets were penalized six times for 26 yards and lost two fumbles.  Tonight was a case of lost opportunities for Williamsburg as they lost two fumbles, had a punt blocked and had to settle for two field goals after driving deep into Mayfield territory.

Trajon Bright led Mayfield’s ground game with 56 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.  Jordon Tyler carried the ball six times for 35 yards.  Landon Arnett completed 11 of 19 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Marshall Bacon caught six passes for 69 yards.  Lane Kennemore added two receptions for 32 yards.  Trajon Bright caught a 10 yard touchdown pass.  Cole Kendall led the defense with 11 solo and three assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards.  Elijah Brimmer added six solo and two assisted tackles and recovered a fumble.  Nick Workman recorded five solo and two assisted tackles.

Fred Massey led Williamsburg’s ground game with 67 yards on 21 carries.  Skyler Griffith carried the ball 21 times for 53 yards and a touchdown.  Skyler Griffith completed 10 of 14 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns.  Corey Shelton caught five passes for 163 yards and a touchdown.  Chase Lowrie added two receptions for 47 yards.  Darrell White caught a 10 yard touchdown pass.  Jeff Patrick led the defense with six solo and four assisted tackles.  M. Rose - Creekmore added seven solo and one assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling three yards.  Austin Huskey recorded four solo and three assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.
